Lucky dogs

The story doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 15 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: We have rehomed Blue Nell! She came to stay here on Tyneside about three weeks ago now and is settling in very well! She will have a go at agility and flyball when she has settled and see what she enjoys! She is making herself very comfortable on the sofa in the meantime with her new canine friends! Really glad we saw her! Hazell Brown (04/10/08)

BLUE NELL

History: Nell is coming off a farm whose owner is too ill to look after the dogs. We need to re home Nell as soon as possible.
Description: Nell is a blue merle with a touch of tan in her. She has a really nice temperament and is very affectionate. She would be nice for agility and suitable for a 1st time collie owner. She gets on with the other dogs on the farm no problem and kennels with another dog. She has always lived outside so is not housetrained, but I am sure she would soon pick that up, especially if she is living with other dogs.
Rehoming criteria: Nell needs a patient owner who is prepared to work with her, give her time to settle and to adjust to her new lifestyle. She is bright and keen to learn. She could go as a pet dog if we cannot find her a working home as her temperament would be suitable for that as well.
Child friendly: Not sure as she has never been around children.
Able to live with cats: Not been around cats.
Age: Unknown
Sex
: Bitch
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: No
Micro-chipped: No
Flea sprayed & wormed: Will be before going to new owner
Cost: TBA with new owner.

Happy Ending: Daz has been rehomed. (15/10/08)

DAZ

History: We have had Daz from nine weeks old. He has been trained to do basic competitive obedience. We need to rehome him as he needs more mental stimulation than we can give. He has been brought up around other dogs and is well socialised.
Description: He is a pedigree Border Collie from strong working lines. Daz has a fantastic temperament and always wants to work and please.
Rehoming criteria: He is very active and  would suit an agility/fly ball/obedience home where he would be worked on a regular basis.

Happy Ending: We have had some lovely enquiries from agiity people. Sian and Gwyn went over to Spalding to visit a lady who was very interested in her. She fell in love with her. She already has a staffy in G5 and has her own land and equipment. It really is a lovely home. She is going next Wednesday. I have her at the moment and it's going to be very very hard to let her go! Thank you for putting her on Agilitynet. Ann (08/10/08)

EBBIE

History: Due to relationship breakdown, my daughter Sian can no longer give Ebbie the attention she deserves as she is now having to work full time. Ebbie would be on her own from 7am to 7pm which we know is not fair on her.
Description: Ebbie is extremely friendly, willing and very, very fast. She is 100% sound in everything, personality, temperament and is very good with dogs, children etc. I had her for three weeks in the summer with my five dogs and she was delightful. She has been to puppy classes and has just started clicker training which she loves. Ebbie loves playing and has been very well socialised and is house trained. I took her to Scunthorpe and Dogs In Need and she loved it. She is KC registered with a five generation pedigree.
Rehoming criteria: To an agility home please. She will be Medium in height.
Child friendly: Yes, extremely
Able to live with cats: Not tested
Age: Nearly 7 months
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Yes - Ebbie is fully insured until March 2009 which is transferable
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: A dontation towards the insurance costs would be acceptable which have been fully paid but a good home is our first criteria.
Where dog can be seen: Sian Roberts in Cardiff or Ann Roberts in Hinckley, Leicestershire  (15/09/08)

Breed: Possibly lab or lurcher X type, but it's anyone's guess really.

Happy Ending: Ebby (aka girlie) has now been homed to an Agility/Obedience home. I am  happy as she has been homed to local agility club so i will see her do well. She was very special and i bet in the ABC she will do fab. Val (08/10/08)

EBBY (aka GIRLIE)

History: This lovely girl came to us from a pound where she was on the ‘put to sleep' list for 02/09/08.  We have no history, just what we can assess since she has been here.
Description: Ebby is ‘a black babe.' She is a mega whirlwind and into everything. She has a super nature, with people and dogs and is not worried by things, just a very happy girl. She is extremely active and always on the go.  This dog should make a seriously fast agility dog as she is so quick and adores toys. Ebbie loves a chuckit and brings the ball back. She also has a super recall. This is not your average dog. She is special.
Rehoming criteria: If you want something other than a collie, and you want a livewire then this is your girl.  Definitely needs to go somewhere to do a job.
Child friendly:
Has met children and so far seems OK, but is probably too hyper for young children.
Able to live with cats: Not tested.
Age: 8-10 months
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: Standard donation

Happy Ending: I am delighted to tell you that Jake has been homed to a friend of mine who is  a local vet. She lost her five year old Lurcher recently who she did agility and obedience with. He died of a sudden heart attack. When she said  she was ready to have another dog, I had to take her to see Jake. Both she  and her husband fell in love with him and have now taken him. He will be doing agility and obedience so look out for him. I can't be more delighted as I am sure you will be. He is so happy and will have a wonderful life with them. Thank you again for all your help. Ceri (04/10/08)

JAKE

History: Jake's previous owners couldn't cope with a sweet puppy who turned into high energy dog. He came into Porthcawl Animal Welfare two months ago and is now desperate to find a home.
Description: Jake is an absolutely gorgeous red and white boy. He does not a bad bone in his body. He gets on well with other dogs and is great with people. He is really affectionate and you can turn him upside down and he giggles at you. Jake is absolutely obsessed with toys, is very fast across the ground and just needs someone to do something with him. He is very bright and eager and will learn anything at lightening speed, he is also very focused so would make a perfect agility, flyball, or obedience dog.
Rehoming criteria: Working home preferably, but such a lovely lad he would be fine with an active pet home.
Child friendly:

Age: 11 months

Happy Ending: Misty was snapped up by the first person who contacted me. Believe it or not, they are going to do Obedience which is fine by me as it's what I do anyway. Misty was very bright in that area. It's good news all the way round anyway as they are thrilled with her.

MISTY

History: I haven't known Misty very long but have fallen in love with her and the way she really does want to please but just doesn't know the best way to do so. She is a charming little foxy BC of 14-15 months old, born June last year. The present owner really does NOT understand her. He expects her to be just like the one she was acquired to replace. She is a rescue already and I first met her when she came along to my training class. I didn't see her at first as the owner let her out of the car and she'd attached herself to a passing dog walker and done her walk with them. The owner didn't seem at all concerned that she was in the next field and just said 'she'll come back when the walker does'. Once he had her and I was able to start teaching them she learned very quickly. Ten minutes for a retrieve is remarkably fast and heelwork has been started as well as recall and stays. She can play for hours and is very reliable around other dogs and people
Description: She is a small black & white BC with a foxy appearance and pricked ears. She is a fast learner and has the energy and the stamina to run for an hour and then do a training session, then looks as if she could do it all again. While training I put up a row of little 15in hurdles and she had great fun charging down them at great speed. All she needs is an owner to teach her the proper way to behave, such as taking herself off with the nearest dog walker isn't the done thing. This wouldn't be difficult for someone with a little more understanding than the present owner. When he called her the second week she came back to me, which should tell you a lot.
Rehoming criteria:
Active  home where the owners and/or the family have the time to keep her interest and work with her. Misty is a delight and if the person taking her was around the
Surrey area I would gladly carry on her training.
Child friendly:
Not totally sure but I'll say Yes as her owner has Grandchildren and I doubt he'd have kept her for a year if she wasn't alright with them.
Able to live with cats: Not Known
Age: 14/15 months
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes

Happy Ending: Smartie has now been rehomed. His new lady owner is very keen to keep him as active as possible. Agility was recommended to her but not sure if she will be for definite. (04/10/08)

SMARTIE

History: Smartie was originally rehomed from us last November as an 11-week-old pup. He has since been rehomed twice to owners that have found him to be very demanding, attention seeking and destructive, therefore returning him for these reasons.
Description: Smartie has a gorgeous, over friendly temperament and it is a real shame that nobody could stick with him long enough to work through his problems. Smartie has never really had any boundaries or restricted from areas of either home, and we feel with the correct approach and oodles of stimulation - again, something he has lacked in - Smartie will be a fantastic dog for somebody looking for a rewarding project.
Rehoming criteria: Young children would be too much of a distraction for Smartie and we feel may hinder training progress, so older, sensible teenagers or adults only would be best. Smartie is social with other dogs, but again has few boundaries, and it would take a very assertive older dog for Smartie to take notice of and happily reside with.
Child friendly:
Yes, older children as too excitable for young children.
Able to live with cats: No, too distracting.
Age: 12 Months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes

Happy Ending: Toby the pup has been re-homed. (04/10/08)

TOBY

History: Toby was purchased from a farm (no papers) as pet dog by a couple who didn't realise what type of dog they'd taken on and came to the conclusion that they didn't really have the time for him so would prefer to find an alternative good home now.
Description: Red and tan Kelpie with some white markings.  He's a bright, confident and active youngster who would make an ideal agility dog as he's already showing he's quick to learn and willing to please.  Is currently being fostered by the vet in his own home with his family and gets on well with his existing two dogs – a boxer and a harlequin great dane! Not completely house trained yet.
Rehoming criteria: An experienced home, ideally one that would be prepared to ‘work' him.
Child friendly:
Yes
Able to live with cats: Not tested
Age: 14 weeks
Sex: Dog
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
