Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 10 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: Annie is no longer looking for a home. (08/04/11)

ANNIE

History: Annie was a stray from Ireland. She arrived at Dogs Trust centre in Sept 2010 and was re-homed to a single mum, with four young kids. Mum couldn’t cope with Annie’s level of activity. She was returned to Dogs Trust after two weeks, then re-homed again with us on 6 January. Her level of energy is beyond our ability to satisfy her needs. We would love to find her the home she deserves.
Description
: Annie is a Terrier mix. She is very intelligent, has immense energy, agility, speed, and curiosity. She is good natured, loves playing with other dogs. Very active during the day but settles well and happily at night where she sleeps in her crate that she loves.
Rehoming criteria: We think Annie would be ideal for agility training. She loves to be with other dogs, and needs a home where will receive lots of stimulation and company of other dogs and humans and with someone used to dealing with Annie’s level of energy.

Happy Ending: Lily the pocket rocket terrier has been rehomed. Thank you for helping find her a suitable home. (08/04/11)

LILY

History: None.
Description: Lily is a little pocket rocket. She adores life and finds the world an exciting and interesting place to be explored at top speed! Her enthusiasm and lust for life is infectious and she will make the most wonderful, comical companion to brighten your day. Lily is living in foster care with other dogs and is a very happy go lucky member of the pack. She loves to play and is having to learn some canine manners about when play is acceptable and when it is unwanted. She is a confident and well socialised puppy who is not phased by dog se meets out on walks. She is a clever girl motivated by food and toys.
Rehoming criteria: Lily is looking for a new home who have previously owned dogs and preferably terriers. She is an active and busy dog who could excel at any training discipline once she is old enough. Agility, flyball, obedience would all be right up her street.
Child friendly:
Lily will not be rehomed with children under the age of 8. She does mouth and play bite and children she lives with need to be old enough to understand how to handle this and continue to provide her with feedback on how to use her jaws appropriately so that she learns bite inhibition.
Able to live with cats: Lily has not been seen with cats or small furries. As a terrier she could have a stronger tendency towards chasing. However, she is young enough to learn to live with cats. Introductions would have to be careful and training methods would need to be positive and hands off.

Rehoming criteria: She needs a stable home where someone can help build her confidence and with a little training could be a fantastic dog for any agility enthusiast. Lucy is looking for a home where people are about most of the day and can give her the active lifestyle she needs. Happy Ending: Pixie has gone to a farming home. Lucky girl! (02/04/11)

PIXIE

History: Pixie was rehomed from North Wales, she is just under 2 years old, has had at least 7 homes and a litter of puppies already, yet she’s a remarkably balanced, relaxed dog.  A real sweetheart, ready to blossom in a new forever home.
Description: Black and tan kelpie, very, very calm in the house and great with young children. She really ‘comes to life’ outside and loves a good bound around, but does have that elusive ‘off switch’! Showing intelligence and drive, she is growing in confidence daily and is incredibly responsive. She’s been reported as not liking loud, young lads (dread to think why…) and whilst she hasn’t shown aggression, she will bark and back away – I’m sure this is through past experiences and can be worked through. She is nervous of new people but soon overcomes this and has been happy to play with strangers.  She has shown no interest in chasing livestock and has generally been a little star!

Rehoming criteria: Best to be rehomed with other dogs, has been fine with both dogs and bitches. Needs a job to do, like any kelpie, but is probably as well suited to an active family home as an agility home.
Child friendly:
Yes - brought up around babies and young children. Currently on foster with a 4 month old baby and is perfectly behaved with him.
Able to live with cats: Yes, lived with a cat and showed no interest

Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes

He is so happy with life, loves other dogs and people, and wants to learn and do anything, he has had very little training, and all he knows is sit and paw, he is very good on the lead.
Rehoming criteria: Smiler will need someone around for part of the day, he will need house training although he is clean in his kennel. She is fine with my two collies despite the fact they would rather she wasn’t there. She does try to play them but they just aren’t interested!
Rehoming criteria: Tashi would love a playmate, she loves everyone, young and old and would like an active home where she would get lots of cuddles. She loves her food and toys so would be very trainable. She is a lively, agile little dog who would enjoy agility.
