Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 11 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: Beanie Boy has been rehomed to a pet/agility home.  (10/08/09)

BEANIE BOY

History: Beanie Boy was a stray so no further knowledge of this dog is known, but we firmly believe that the people who brought him into us could have been the owners. He was not in very good condition, under weight, full of worms and had a family of fleas on him. His 7 days have been and gone and no one claimed him, so he is now up for rehoming.
Description: As you can see Beanie is a stunning small & petite border collie, lovely black and white with super pricked up ears.  This little boy is a definite for agility, flyball or even obedience. He is on the go the whole time. He loves playing with toys and he is now good mixing with other dogs. He's basically just a typical OTT border collie just wanting to do things. So if you are fit and can run and put some work into this him, he will almost certainly reach stardom. He deserves it. He is good to travel and also good in kennels.
Rehoming criteria: 100% working home, this little boy would drive a pet home owner nuts, in the nicest way. He has just got to be doing something, but he does have a soft side to him. (when he is asleep!) He knows when enough is enough and I say STOP.
Child friendly:
Yes - but remember he is very OTT so better with older kids.
Able to live with cats: Not tested
Age: 6 months

Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: Standard donation

History: Sadly Blue is looking for a new home due to his owner developing an allergy.
Description: He is a Black with long legs and very fast. He can jump high and long.

FLOYD & FLUMP

History: Floyd and Flump came in from a working farm that was unable to sell them.
Description:  Floyd is tri-coloured and Flump is red and white. They are both typical little working collies and are very confident and into everything. Both parents are working farm collies so these are not your average family pets and will need plenty of stimulation to prevent them going self employed.
Rehoming criteria: An active home with collie experience is essential. New owners need to be prepared to visit the centre to view the dogs.
Child friendly: Yes.
Able to live with cats: Yes
Age: 11 weeks 28/07/09

Description: Jasper, a red merle Border Collie, is a typical lively Collie who is particularly keen on ball games. He is very good with other dogs and is subservient to all. Happy Ending: We've heard that after a long search, Lucky has found a new home with a new dedicated owner. (09/08/09)

LUCKY

History: Lucky was a pet, and belonged to a guy who worked in the Parks Department. Sadly, he lost his job and his home, so had to find a new one for Lucky.
Description: The amazing thing about Lucky is that he is very well-trained and can do lots of tricks: roll-over, paw, crawling – and is mad about toys. He’s extremely fast, and intelligent and must go to a working home.  If you want a dog that’s guaranteed to be up for agility, look no further.  And he’s got no hang-ups at all.  Lucky is black and white and very handsome. See Lucky’s video here
Rehoming criteria: Whilst Lucky has no hang-ups, he’s a big, strong, male collie and will need an experienced collie home where he will be able to learn lots of new tricks and will need plenty of exercise of course!
Child friendly: Yes, as long as home is experienced.
Able to live with cats: No
Age: I8 months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes

Happy Ending: Maddie has now been homed. She's gone to a 20 acre farm to work the sheep and hens! Total paradise.  (03/08/09)

MADDIE

History: Maddie was purchased as a puppy from a working farm. Both parents were seen. She has been really loved but, due to her OTT and non-stop playing and herding with the kids, she has put the odd nip in on the children's heels. Otherwise, Maddie is a total dream. With great upset within the family, the parents decided that Maddie just was not getting the life style she should have and, living with the family children was just winding her up.
Description: She is a lovely tri-colour, medium-coated collie with lovely pricked up ears. Apart from being a little bit protective over her food and pulling like a train on lead, she is wonderful. She can find the biggest tree branch and bring it to you. Maddie does lots of tricks and is very obedient. The reason we feel she would be a good agility dog is that she is fast and furious and toy mad. Channel this and you will have a real fab agility dog in the making.
Rehoming criteria: Working home only.
Child friendly:
Yes, but does get OTT
Able to live with cats: Yes, Maddie has lived with two cats
Age: 16 months
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Yes, just done.
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: Standard donation

Happy Ending: The Kelpie x Welsh Sheepdog puppy has now been rehomed. (31/08/09)

PUP

History: Kelpie x Welsh Sheepdog puppy who was rescued from an unsuitable home.
Description: She is a red/white bitch with green eyes. She is very energetic and need a home with lots to do. She has started 'clicker' training and knows sit/down/retrieves to hand/started walking on slack lead/recall and has learnt all of this in two weeks!
Rehoming criteria:  An active home is required as she is too demanding to be just a pet.
Child friendly:
Untried but given her age should be okay
Able to live with cats: Not tested.
Age: 12 weeks
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: Donation against my costs would be appreciated.

Happy Ending: Ralph has now found a great home directly from the rescue centre.  (31/087/09)

RALPH

History: Ralph was handed in to the SAA because his owner had to change his working hours and this meant that Ralph was being left on his own for up to nine hours. This was making him very stressed and he was beginning to become destructive and was chewing the chair legs.
Description: Ralph is a tri coloured collie X, possibly some Kelpie in his make up, and maybe a little donkey too judging by the size of his ears! He is a very energetic boy and has managed to get out of the indoor exercise area over a 5ft gate so should manage a small 2ft agility jump with no problem. He gets on very well with other dogs and loves people. This dog doesn’t seem to have many faults at all and should soon settle into his new home.
Rehoming criteria: Gardens should have adequate Ralph proof fences. New owners should be around for most of the day as he does not like being left alone. We can only do home visits within an hours drive of Manchester so a local home would be preferred.
Child friendly: Yes, he lived with a 5 year old.
Able to live with cat: Hasn't lived with cats so we don't know how he would cope.
Age: 12 months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: £100
Where dog can be seen: Stretford, Manchester

Happy Ending: Yogi has a new home. I am delighted - and also upset actually that I am unable to keep him myself - to say that Roger Brown is going to take this little chap on. And what a handful he will be. He's caused mayhem here and only been here a week!  (07/08/09)

YOGI

History: Yogi, through no fault of his own, needs a new home as his owner finds him too boisterous and noisy to live with. She had hoped he would calm down, but he has not and can cope no longer. All breed papers available, vaccination card and fuller history as required.
Description: Yogi is an all red German Spitz and very fluffy as you would expect, with a sweet expressive face. He has been measured (UKA) at around 14 inches but as he did not remain still, this may not be accurate! Yogi has a BIG personality being intelligent, bold, affectionate and oh sooo cute. He is on the go all the time a bit like a collie! His owner is accurate in that he is noisy, but not when he is out walking, agility training or otherwise occupied in some activity. He is a dog that needs to be kept busy yet will settle in the evening when everyone else is quiet. He has started agility training and is very sharp, fast, motivated and very quick to learn. He has fantastic potential as an agility dog and seeing him fly over small jumps at great speed, he would have no problem doing medium height in due course. He is very good with other dogs and likes to encourage them to chase him although he will back off quickly if told to go away!
Rehoming criteria:  An active home is required with plenty of room for him to tear about and lots of loving company.
Child friendly:
Untried but given his very lively nature, it is not recommended that he be placed with a family who have children under 10 years of age.
Able to live with cats: Unlikely, never met one and likes to chase
Age: 13 months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes – Due 21 August
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Wormed not sure re: flea spray
Cost: Lots of your love and time
Where dog can be seen:  Alfold, near Cranleigh, Surrey (04/08/09)
