Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 18 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

He is a fun and friendly lad who will suit someone looking for an active dog. Cena has also participated in a basic obedience course with members of staff.
Rehoming criteria: Cena needs an experienced home in a semi rural/rural environment with capable handlers able to maintain control, knowledgeable of breed traits and able to be firm but fair in training providing him with good stimulation. Update: Henry and Walt have been rehomed.   (02/12/09)

HENRY & WALT

History: Henry and Walt came from a sheepdog handler and are ISDS-registered. They are failed working sheepdogs who didn't make the grade, hence they need new homes.
Description: Henry is a two years old tri colour while Walt is a one year old black and white. They are both super dogs – lovely temperament, good-looking. They are rough coated. They are not housetrained yet and a bit bewildered about what is going on. They could make good Agility dogs eventually but they will need time and patience at the moment to get accustomed to the world. They have never lived indoors and normal things like TV and vacuum cleaners are strange and scary to them. I am sure they will get used to the 'home comforts' really quickly though. They have amazing temperaments and are very friendly.
Rehoming criteria: Somebody who has the patience to introduce them to life as a pet. They don't know toys yet and have never lived as a pet. Maybe another good natured dog to help them settle in would help.
Child friendly: Yes.

LUCY

History: Lucy was a stray, who had done her seven days. Valgrays decided to give her a chance. From her condition, it certainly looks as she has not had the best out of life. Well things are going to change for her now!
Description: As you can see from the 'Before' picture, she was in very poor condition but now she is stunning and looking like a princess - thanks for a bit of food, some care and love. She is the most beautiful, gentle dog with a nature to die for. She is a black tri colour. Who knows if she would make an agility dog and who really cares, but the sky now has to have a silver lining and someone somewhere will fall head over heels in love with Lucy.
Rehoming criteria: A home to love her and spoil her silly please and whatever life brings to her now she can put the past behind her.

Happy Ending: Lucy has gone to a loving home. (26/12/09)

LUCY

History: Lucy was brought to us to be rehomed.
Description: Lucy is an incredibly bright and active young lad. She will be the perfect agility dog. She will be Medium in agility terms but she has had a fractured leg although there is absolutely no sign of this now.
Rehoming criteria: Lucy will need to go to a home that will give her a bit more rest, then work her up to running off lead etc. She will need to be kept on lead walks only at the moment. The vet has said until December (so not too long) and then work on strengthening the muscles again, by vigorous lead walking then to off the lead etc. This young lady is believed to be a Podengo (We were told by a lady who works with some). She is crying out for an active home and when ready would definitely be my pick for a fast, fun Medium agility dog. The vet is sure that this should not affect her, providing the correct steps are taken in the start.

Happy Ending: Meryl the merle has now been homed. She's gone to a lovely lady who already has another Valgrays so we will be seeing her around the agility shows. A nice happy end. (10/12/09)

MERYL

History: Stray unclaimed and has pretty much had a rotten short life. Meryl was in the pound in Ireland and then came to England and ended up at Valgrays. She is in isolation at the moment and will be available shortly.
Description: She is lovely, a pretty tri colour blue merle. Meryl is a sweet natured collie girl and wants to please but a little shy, she has no malice in her.  She is naturally obedient and walks lovely off lead by you. If she goes to an agility family she will probably measure Midi, as she is very petite.
Rehoming criteria: A loving kind family please.

MOJO

History: Mojo is only 9 months old yet still looking for his third home. He was brought to us by a lady who rescued him on his last day from the pound.
Description: Mojo is a lovely bouncy typical Collie! He is a super sweet boy, with lots of energy to be channelled. He would always put 100% effort into any job given to him. Mojo is great with people and other dogs, and is just a joy to be with.
Rehoming criteria: Super active home needed with a job such as Agility or Flyball.

NOO NOO

History: Noo Noo was found as a stray that had been breed from starved and then abandoned she came into Foster care with me in June of this year and was such a lovely house guest but was sadly she returned due to a few very minor problems which she no longer has issues with.
Description: Noo Noo is a pretty Jack Russell X in good health. She has a very happy bright and loving disposition. She loves to be busy and is very quick to learn which is why we would like her to go to an active fun home and would also very much like to see her taking part in agility.
Rehoming criteria: Noo Noo needs to be re homed in a home where there is already a resident dog or dogs and will need someone at home most of the day as she can become distressed if left too long.

Happy Ending: Ollie has been re-homed. He went to a farm in a nearby village as a Cattle herder! He'll start his training in the spring. It was a great outcome for him as he was becoming very difficult in the kennels.  (30/12/09)

OLLIE

History : Ollie has come from a pet home where his owners worked long hours.
Description: Ollie is a black & white, semi-coated WSD, from working stock.
Rehoming criteria: Ollie is looking for a home without children under 10 years. He could probably live with other dogs. Ollie needs his strong chase drive channelling appropriately so we feel an owner who does agility
/flyball would be ideal.

Happy Ending: Ozzy has gone to a loving home. (26/12/09)

OZZY

History: Unknown.
Description: Ozzy is a smashing young boy who is desperate to find something to do! He would love to gain trust in a special person who is willing to work with him and give him a job to do. He has lots of energy and needs to channel this and we think agility would be perfect for him. I took Ozzy out this morning and he is such a lovely character. Within a 30 minute play, Ozzy was my best friend and couldn't wait to go out and investigate more. Ozzy is such a motivated and attentive dog, so could easily be moulded and encouraged to learn something new!
Rehoming criteria: Ozzy would love an active home with someone who would help him to gain trust in them and teach him manners and how to play with other people and animals!

Happy Ending: Samson is no longer looking for a home

SAMSON

History: Sam was a poundie that we took from death row, so his history before coming to us in January 2009 is unknown. He was in foster care for five months and had been rehomed for six months. Very sadly, his adopter has come to the heartbreaking decision that she unable to give this boy the help that he needs.. Description: Sam is a handsome young man who tries his best to please. He is a very insecure and stressed boy. His issues are complex and run deep.  He is fantastic with all people - young and old, male and female and great in the house.  He is undemanding, housetrained and not destructive. He is a very lovely boy and we all love him very much, hence doing our very best to get him the help that he needs. He has fear issues with many things: other dogs, horses and cattle (although he shared his foster home with other dogs). It results in him showing fear aggression, which in all honesty is not pretty. He has never done any serious damage, but he will need to be properly managed while he undergoes a programme of de-sensitisation and counter-conditioning, along with confidence building. He is constantly giving appeasement signals to people, so we can only guess at his past. Somewhere along the line he has received training as he does a fab distance stay with only a hand signal.  He is loving and affectionate.  This boy has so much potential if only his issues could be overcome.
Rehoming criteria: He really needs a home with someone who has a degree in Canine Behaviour or similar to be able to unravel his issues and give him the confidence he needs to be able to cope.  It's possible he may need appropriate medication to support him through this time. Full details can be given to anyone who has the knowledge and experience to take this boy on.
