Lucky dogs
The
fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset, but these dogs
have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear
anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 16 dogs found new homes. Many of them
are going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.
Dogs are featured in alphabetical
order.

Happy Ending: My little dog Chocky has indeed been
re-homed. He did not go to an agility home in the end, but instead to an active couple
who walk several hours every day which would suit him just as well.

CHOCKY
History:
Chocky has been me since he was a puppy. However my personal circumstances have changed
and I have reached the very difficult decision that he should be in a home where his
energy and enthusiasm would be enjoyed and where he has a job to do.
Description:
Chocky is a stocky, tri-coloured JRT. A really lovable, affectionate little chap, he
loves people. He 'talks' to you to get attention and loves his cuddles. He is really
well-behaved at home and doesn't chew, although he can be excitable, and is likely to
jump up initially when people come round. He has done some basic obedience work and is
really attentive, anticipating the commands if I am too slow! He will do Sit, Down,
Round, between your legs and sit, also will Stay and Come. He will also turn a circle
with the training stick and touch tiles to get a treat. We've done up to 4. He really,
really wants to please. He has bags of energy and enthusiasm and loves chasing balls or
playing tug games. He loves a good run, but if he picks up a scent can be a challenge to
get back! Chocky has had a taste of some agility jumps and weave poles recently with a
dog trainer friend, and he absolutely loved it. She said he would almost certainly 'do
the job' and thinks he would do flyball, too. This lovely little chap is bored, bored,
bored, and desperately needs a job to do. He lives with another male JRT,
a cat and a three year old child. He is brilliant with all of them.
Rehoming criteria: A loving home is
required for this happy little chap, ideally with people who understand terriers. He
needs lots of exercise and stimulation and with a bit of training he would be really good
(and enthusiastic) at any discipline.

CLOONEY
History:
Clooney is a rescue dog who came from the stray dog pound and
has been in the rescue for a year. He went out to a home with small children but chased a
cat so was returned after a few months.
Description: This is a Medium agility
prospect, standing 40cms/400mm at the shoulder. Clooney is a
handsome tri-colour, looks like beagle cross Jack Russell
type, stocky, long body, athletic and will run all day. Clooney is obedient by nature
with no stubbornness. He just wants to please and will do anything for a piece of
cheese. He is exceptionally affectionate and very good with all people and especially
children. He has a stress problem with new dogs that he meets, but this is getting better
over time. He barks a lot especially when he meets new dogs on the lead, however he is
not a fighter. This has prevented him getting a home as most people can’t cope with the
barking. We are hoping that if he had a job to do then over time he would get used to
meeting lots of new dogs and the focus of work would help reduce his stress levels.
Clooney is very intelligent so would learn the job quickly and he is extremely fast. He
is currently fostered (not kennelled) with 14 dogs of all
sizes on a smallholding and doesn’t run away nor does he chase free range hens. He walks
nicely on a lead until he sees a dog to bark at and his recall off lead is excellent. He
just hangs around even if you are not watching him. He is very loyal and loving. He
doesn’t suffer separation anxiety and is not destructive in the home. He is house
trained.
Rehoming
criteria: Clooney will need a special, patient, experienced owner who
will reward his good behaviour and not shout to add to his
stress when he barks. We are hoping that the agility world will come up with such an
owner as the poor lad really needs his own home. It would do him good to live with other
dogs. He is very social in a group of dogs but will still bark
when running up the fields together as he gets so excited. This is not a dog for a first
time or nervous dog owner.
Child friendly: Yes, he
absolutely adores children of all ages and is totally trustworthy

CRACKER
History:
Cracker has come from a Welsh hill farm and was owned by an 80 year old man.
Description:
A male WSD, who until
recently was completely unsocialised, but now Cracker is very enthusiastic about life.
His behaviour is very teenage
puppy - wild, woolly and eager to get started in life.
Rehoming
criteria:
He will need a home
where someone can put some time in, and
he will repay you many times over
and I have no doubt at all about his ability to adjust to and do well in an agility home
because he really wants to be involved with you. Cracker is
happy to be crated, but has no house manners

Tears Animal Rescue by Sarah Evans.
Description: At
the moment they are a little nervous so we are looking for a home where they will get
lots and lots
of socialising at this important time in their lives. They are looking for a nice active
home with someone who will give him the exercise and mental stimulation that they need.
He is such a sweet boy and looks forward to enjoying lovely long walks and fun training,

Happy Ending: Little Teddy went to his new pet home at
Christmas time.
(08/02/11) |
LITTLE TEDDY
History:
Teddy is a pure Whippet from
Ireland. He was in the
hands of a very nasty man, and sadly Teddy's brother died. At the moment
Teddy is a very shy and quiet dog, he probably has
had all his bounce knocked out of him.
Description:
He is very gentle and has no malice in him despite the terrible short life he has had.
Teddy gets on well with other dogs and horses.
Rehoming criteria:
Teddy needs a
gentle person to give him the love he so wants.....he is still young enough to get over
all his horrible past and what he must have witnessed.
We think Teddy would be super
for agility as these little dogs are so agile. With lots of care and love and play Teddy
would love this type of sport. Teddy is a stunning Whippet, and it would be wonderful for
him to now have a purpose in life and be happy in a forever home.

Madou was rehomed just
after Christmas.
(05/02/11) |
MADOU
History:
Madou was rehomed from the shelter two months
ago. I had worked with them to help train her but she proved
too much for her older city dweller owner due to strength and need to work/high energy. Last
week she was placed in RSPCA Northumberland care with the agreement I would continue to
try to find her a suitable home.
Description:
Madou is a medium-sized dark brindle short haired bitch. She
is a happy friendly girl, very work driven especially for tennis ball. High energy but
not frantic. She has basic manners, physically very fast and fit and enjoys free running
with other dogs but would rather chase balls than play with others so great for working. She
is house trained and okay to be left alone, constrained behind dog gate. She
travels well. Needs a firm experienced owner to do further training. Very
strong on lead with some leash frustration towards fast moving or barky dogs but fine off
lead with dogs. She took correction from my dogs when given without further incident. She
is friendly and happy with people who greet her both inside and out although has
learnt to bark at some people to get attention while on lead.
Rehoming
criteria:
Madou
needs an experienced working home where she will be given the guidance to
fulfil her potential. She has high energy and brains to
burn, she will work in any dog sport, agility, working trials,
obedience or flyball.
A home check and vet reference obligatory.

MELODY (AKA MEL)
History:
Melody (aka Mel) came into Many Tears Rescue (South Wales) from Ireland as a stray.
Description: Mel is extremely active,
with a good recall and is totally focused on balls and toys. She goes flat onto the
ground (collie stance) when waiting for her ball and has her whole focus on you and will
ignore any dogs at this point. She is approximately 14 months old. I am fostering her and
have a dog walking business so Mel is exposed to all dogs and is excellent with all of
them.

History:
Mirk is a very well bred ISDS. registered Border Collie. Due to his breeding, several
people have hoped they could get him to work sheep to trialing standard and he has had
several homes. He is now desperate for a loving forever home where he can settle for some
alternative employment!
Description:
He is a lovely looking, tri-coloured boy. He is a fit and active dog with a wonderful
friendly temperament towards both people and other dogs.
Rehoming criteria:
Mirk would dearly love to bond with one
loving owner and settle down to work at agility, obedience or flyball. A pet companion
home with lots of exercise would be fine, too.

ROXY
History:
Roxy came from a family home with one child. She was snapping and mouthing very hard, and
was only 8 months old. She came to me as she was going to be pts because the family just
could not cope with her behaviour. She was fearful of new situations and did not know
how to deal with them.
Description:
Roxy is a smooth coated, prick eared, black and white girlie. She was snappy and did
mouth hard when she arrived with me at almost any opportunity she got. She has come a
long way and is now much better. She will let me fuss and cuddle her now. It seems to be
she cannot always tolerate prolonged contact, and where she would react to this by
smiling, snapping and mouthing hard. Roxy now will walk away from a situation which she
feels uncomfortable with. I think with further work she would make a very good agility
dog and that this sport would be the making of her. It will give her 'a job' to occupy
her and something to focus on. She has had a poor start, but is now beginning to live her
life to the full.
Rehoming criteria:
Roxy
will need a home without other animals in residence as she is very bossy and does not
have the social skills to be in that situation permanently. She will bully other dogs,
although she will walk on lead with other dogs once she is used to them and
realises she's not in charge of the situation. She would be
best not left too long. Roxy needs a forever home that will be willing to carry on her
training as she is not the finished article yet. Roxy will not be

History:
We have had
Rufus from a puppy but due to personal circumstances and no fault of his own Rufus needs

Description:
Rufus, a tri colour Border Collie,
is on the larger size for a Collie. He's a good boy walking on and off the lead knows
basic commands like sit, lie down and will crawl for a treat. He will also sit at a
distance up to 20 meters away. He would make an excellent
agility dog. Although we have not done any with him, he will happily jump over, crawl
under and walk along horse jumps which he enjoys very much.
