Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 10 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: Blue has gone to live in West Wales with a lovely lady who does tracking and alternative training. We are sure he will have a wonderful life.  (06/01/10)

BLUE

History: Blue originally came into Dogs Trust from an unsuitable home who couldn't cope with the needs of a young, active dog.
Description: Blue is a scruffy white and blue lurcher who is about the size of a large collie. He is a really sweet friendly boy, full of fun and personality. Love his toys and his food. Blue is a fabulous mixer with other dogs, so much so that we have been using him at the centre to bring on some of our more under-socialised dogs! Blue is very active and loves his off lead burns!
Rehoming criteria: Blue would love an active home where he can do a bit of fun agility. We would like Blue to go to a home with other dogs as he is much happier when he has canine friends! New owners must be prepared to visit Blue at Bridgend

Happy Ending: Billy has found a lovely new home. He went to a "fun agility" home and is amazingly quickly finding his feet. He seems to be having a brilliant time. (03/01/10)

BLUE EYED BILL

History: Bill has come from a farm and is ISDS-registered. He was deemed not good enough to work.
Description: Bill is a long coated, tri-colour blue eyed boy. He is a super dog. He is not  housetrained yet and a bit bewildered about what is going on. He has always lived outside so things like vacuum cleaners and televisions are a bit scary to him.
Rehoming criteria: Somebody who has the patience to introduce them to life as a pet. They don't know toys yet and have never lived as a pet. Maybe another good natured dog to help them settle in would help.

Happy Ending: Chleo has indeed been homed. I did a photo session of her down at the kennels and within a day or two she finally got a foster home. She was only there a little while before her forever family turned up!  She is now living with a couple in Devon.  Her new owners were so excited. On the day they collected Chleo their car blew a gasket or similar and had to be towed from Basingstoke to Devon!  All feedback on her homing has been excellent. (15/01/10)

CHLEO (REVISITED)

History: Chleo was bought as a puppy together with another puppy same age different litter with the idea they'd keep each other company whilst the family worked full time hours. House sale prompted rehoming. Fostered together for months then placed in kennels. Now again fostered together but within a large pack of Westies.
Description:
Chleo is the most unusual looking Fell Terrier. She has the colouring of a Yorkie with a tight non-molt, frizzy curls with smooth face and legs. She is a wow! Chleo has a true little Miss Terrier temperament, very much the boss. She has her sleeves rolled up and ready for the next task. She was left for 10-12 hours a day as puppy with her partner so she missed out on so much and developed traits such a tail spinning to occupy that active mind and now rarely has the odd 'accident'. Chleo is very focused and intelligent in her use of toys. She'd be ideal for agility. She gets excited meeting people in the house and immediately will try to engage them in her activities. She is loving in her terrier aloof way. Chleo loves to meet dogs on her extender lead. She doesn’t pull and is pleasant to walk. With her first fosterer she gained confidence and became bolder. She likes to meet people and has a happy smile on her face. A truly lovely Terrier.
Rehoming criteria: We feel she needs another dog as a companion; to interact with her so her energy continues to be appropriately employed and also to act as a role model in meeting dogs outside and mixing. She has a mannerism of twirling around and chasing her tail which her current fosterers have helped her to diminish. She needs someone who will be around during the day to guide her further. Chleo would be Medium for agility. If you love terriers, Chleo will win your heart.
Child friendly:
She would be better living with older children who respect home exit management and not whipping her energy up.

Happy Ending: Nell has gone to an active pet home. (06/01/10)

NELL

History: Nell was offered to Rhian Stafford when her owner didn’t want her any more. Nell was very bored and had started killing his chickens. Rhian took her in because she couldn’t leave her be put down. Unfortunately she is not in a position to be able to keep her. She is now with Dogs Trust Bridgend
Description: Nell is a medium-sized bitch, black & tan with white paws. She wasn't in fantastic condition when she was give up but she has put on some weight since then. She is playful, inquisitive and bright. She has a placid temperament, is extremely affectionate and loves playing with her toys. She is also very agile. Unfortunately she isn’t fully house trained and hasn’t received much general training. However she has very good recall off lead.
Rehoming criteria: An active home, where she would have time put into her training.

Happy Ending: Paddy was rehomed just after Christmas. He didn't end up going to an agility home, but he will be kept busy as club mascot as his new owners run an ultimate frisbee team! We have been in touch with his new owners and he is doing well. (20/01/10)

PADDY

History: Paddy was an Irish stray who we found and fell in love with at Dogs Trust, aged 6 months.
Description: Paddy is an energetic Collie x Shepherd who spent around 18 months training at Bromsgrove DTC. He is a very quick dog and showed great potential but could get distracted. He jumps large, and loved the tunnels and contact equipment. We had to stop training because of my lack of available time. He has a lovely personality and gets on great with other dogs who we meet on walks and is happy with other dogs coming into our home. He can walk well on a lead although has a tendency to chase motorbikes, and he is great off the lead around the fields, chasing his ball or frisbee.
Rehoming criteria: We need Paddy to live with someone who can spend more time with him than we now can. He spends far too much time locked in the house as we both work fulltime.

Happy Ending: Prince has been sorted, He has gone to a local farm. (31/01/10)

PRINCE

History: Prince is still with his original family who think the world of him but can no longer manage to keep him. As a pup he did well with his obedience training and is house-trained and well-behaved indoors. But his 'Mum' became ill and had to spend time in hospital so Prince went to live with a relative. Unfortunately his training lapsed, and he didn’t get the regular attention and walks that he needed. He eventually came back to his own home but has become rather boisterous when out of the house and difficult to handle. He's still good indoors, but is very excitable when outside and his Mum can no longer manage him. 'Dad' works as a driver and spends long days away from home so is unable to give Prince the time that he needs.
Description: Prince is a black & white, short coated Border Collie. He's very happy,  friendly and has loads of energy. He needs to work and have plenty of exercise. He loves to be doing things and is very intelligent. With the right training he has the makings of a good agility dog or similar pursuit which would keep him active and stimulated.
Rehoming criteria: Prince desperately needs a home, preferably without other dogs, where his new owners can give him the time he needs to settle down and develop into a balanced adult dog. He needs plenty of exercise and long walks. He would make a super companion for an active person who has the time to spend with him.
Child friendly: Untried, but no known problems
Able to live with cats: Unknown, but doubtful

Happy Ending: Rupert has found a new loving home locally with a lovely lady who has a Border Terrier girl for him to play with. Although it is not an agility home, I am sure he will be very happy and well loved there. (16/01/10)

RUPERT

History: I bought Rupert from a local breeder and have had him since he was 11 weeks old, and he is now 16 months old. It is with great regret that I am looking for a loving home for him because he is such a cute and beautiful pet. My circumstances have changed, and next March I plan to move abroad for
some time. Therefore, it is through no fault of Rupert’s that I have come to this decision.
Description: Rupert is a very cute looking dog and I am often stopped in the street by people wanting to know his breed. He seems highly intelligent and easily works out puzzles toys etc. He is all black with a white chest and longish hair. He has a lot of energy, and is so agile that I think he would make an excellent dog for agility.  He is very well behaved in the house - can sit and stay etc. but outside he will run for it if given half the chance on a scent of a rabbit. But I believe with even more training he would make a brilliant obedient dog. He is full of fun and character and will make you laugh.
Rehoming criteria: I am looking for a special home for Rupert - people who have got the time and energy to give him all the love and attention he needs. He loves a long walk everyday. He is a lovely friendly dog - he loves all people and is good with other dogs. I would love him to go to a really doggy caring home, and it would be even better if he could be trained for agility as I know he would love the challenge.
Child friendly:

Able to live with cats: No, definitely not. He would chase them night and day.

Happy Ending: Tilly has just gone to her new home. There was lots of interest in her. (06/01/10)

TILLY

History: Transferred from Scotland with no history.
Description: Tilly is a dinky, tri colour working collie who is very pretty and clearly from working stock. Will be 'Medium'. She has classic collie traits with 'eye and stalk'. Doesn't seem to have much socialisation with strangers and dogs so tends to panic when first meeting and collie nip but quickly makes friends and loves to be on your lap for fuss and cuddles. Ball mad but also works for treats. Needs to work, she's too bright for kennels.
Rehoming criteria: All members of family and any existing dogs will have to come to the centre to meet before he will be able to go home. Adopters can be anywhere in the country provided they are happy to travel. Adopters will have to attend a talk.

Happy Ending: Timo, the deaf dog, has found a home at the Cornish seaside.  Lovely!  (31/01/10)

TIMO

History: Timo is a farm dog who was bred for sheepdog trials.
DescriptionTimo is mostly white with black patches. He is a very special dog, because he is deaf, but he already understands Gill’s hand signals. All credit to his breeder for actually wanting to rehome him. Timo has a wonderful, friendly temperament, and is very fast and bright.
Rehoming criteria: For a patient agility handler, Timo could be the ideal dog. He would also be a great pet.
