Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 13 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

BUDDY

Description: Buddy is a medium size mongrel. He has an athletic build and is very fast. He is people, toy and food focused
.
Rehoming criteria:   Buddy would ideally go to a home with terrier experience, and would be suited better living with adults and teens.

Happy Ending: Coco was reserved at the Cippenham show. No doubt you will be seeing her around the agility circuit soon.  (25/06/10)

COCO
(aka Batfink!)

History: This is Coco. She was purchased as a six week old pup by a lady who basically just had her for a few weeks and did not want her so she gave her to another family who were not really that knowledgeable but the gentleman did like her and took her home. Now he realises that he cannot keep her as he has two children, lives in a flat and his partner is not really keen on dogs. He also works all day. He took her in because he felt really sorry for her!
Description
: Coco is with Valgrays now and she is a really sweet, pretty, loveable dog. She has a wonderful nature with children, cats, other dogs and people. We know she is Kelpie but feel she may have a bit of something else in her? (Maybe whippet) Not sure about the ears! As you can see, Coco is a very pretty brown tri-colour.
Rehoming criteria: This little girl is not going to be big. We think she would make Medium size so if you are interested in agility she would be totally fab. She loves her tuggie games. Definitely not for the faint hearted and would suit someone who can run. Tese Kelpies make superb Agility dogs.

IZZY & JUNO

History: Taken out of horrific conditions by authorities when they were found living in filth and covered in their own excrement every single bone in their little bodies you could feel. They were brought over to Valgrays to save them going into pound conditions.
Description: These little pups have certainly had the strength to survive and now deserve a happy end.  As you can see they are collie x Papillons? We think, they are definately going to be Small/Medium. They are just so cute. They have been bathed and now they feel happy and have just started to play.

Happy Ending: Benson was rehomed via Agilitynet. Jerry -Lee still need a home but his fosterer thinks he might be too old for agility now. (10/06/10)

JERRY-LEE & BENSON
(The dogs formerly known as Lancelot and Merlin)

HistoryThese puppies have been rescued from their previous owner whose idea of training was to thrash them with a belt. They are currently being looked after in very expensive kennels which were chosen because the dogs have a big run of their own so they are not locked up all day. The fosterers are also paying for extra walks outside the kennels and for staff to play with them with toys. They have been renamed. Jerry-Lee is the red one and Benson the black one.
DescriptionThe dogs are very beautiful, friendly and affectionate. Both have very nice temperaments. The staff have trained them to sit, stay, down and they are very calm. They are willing to please and show a keen interest in agility. They would make very good Agility/Flyball candidates as they have no undesirable traits at the moment and are very eager to learn.
Rehoming criteria:
They need to go to separate homes as any sensible person should know having two dogs from the same litter usually ends in disaster. They need a home where they will be given lots of love and exercise. Training them in Agility or Flyball would be a great way of keeping their minds occupied.
Child friendly:
Because of their age obviously they are very bouncy and playful, people with small children should have previous experience with dogs and not allow children to tease them.
Able to live with cats:
Have never had any contact with cats.

Happy Ending: Marley has found a new home. (14/06/10)

MARLEY
Bailstails Marvel Star

History: Marley is available through no fault of his own, he has been returned through a marriage break up. I bred Marley and have all his paperwork which will be given to new owner. Both parents DNA health tested/ hip scored and PRA tested. He is in my care and I feel he now needs more time than I can give him. His owner’s have signed all paperwork so he can be registered in new owner’s names immediately.
Description: Marley is a stunning, very athletic intelligent energetic medium coated black/white 10mth old boy who needs a loving working home, he has the ability to Make an ideal agility prospect or other type of working home, he needs lots of walks and mental stimulation, he's a very quick learner, gets on well with other dogs regardless of size or breed, he's living with my collie's and 1 mini poodle x 2 toy poodles, he's got a great personality, loves lot's of cuddles. He comes from ISDS working lineage with top class pedigree.
Rehoming criteria: I will only let Marley go to an experienced BC home. Both Marley's Dam/Sire compete in agility as do others from his litter so preference given to an Agility/obedience/fly ball home. He is great with children but I would prefer a home with 5+ years.

Happy Ending: Missie has found a new home with a Junior handler. (02/06/10)

MISSIE

History: Missie was purchased by the daughter to give to her mum to keep her company.  But the mother was out all day working and poor Missie was left alone for long periods of time so the daughter kept her and hid her in her flat as she was not allowed dogs. The landlord heard about the dog and was told to get rid of her so she came to Valgrays.
Description: Missie did not know how to socialise with other dogs so when she arrived she was going to take on the world and all in her path or, at least, that's what she thought! Missie was pulled down a peg or two with my mob and she is now a very happy, playful girlie. She shares her toys with the dogs and generally is now a real nice dog. She is a very pretty tri colour and is on the go all the time. She is super off lead and very responsive. Missie is young enough to put some work into and in time time she has the potential to become a super working girl... agility, obedience or even flyball. The world's her oyster!

Happy Ending: Pansy was rehomed ages ago. (10/06/10)

PANSY

History: Pansy came into Dogs Trust Shoreham as a handover back in July 2008 due to the family having a change in circumstances.
Description: Pansy loves going for long walks but she does have a strong herding instinct and needs to be kept on lead in areas where she might come into contact with livestock. She is a very affectionate girl who loves nothing better than to sprawl herself across your lap and have a cuddle. This pretty girl is great fun to be around and would make someone a lovely companion.
Rehoming criteria: Pansy gets upset when left alone so we are looking for owners who wouldn’t have to leave her on her own very often. She would also like a well fenced garden as she has springs in her heels! She is looking for a home where any children should be over 12 years of age.
Child friendly: Yes – But to live with children over the age of 12.
Able to live with cats: No

Happy Ending: Sparkle has found a happy new home via another source. (09/06/10)

SPARKLE

History: Sparkle was originally rescued at 12 months as a stray. She is currently living in a busy household with young children where she has been for six months. Sparkle is a very loyal and loving dog, and her current owners are devastated to give her up – but understand she needs to be in a home that can give her far more activity and stimulation than she gets at the moment.  We need to home her soon as children are distressed that she needs to be re-homed.
Description: Sparkle is a small collie x cocker, bursting with energy. Sparkle loves to be with other dogs, so could live with another dog, or go out in groups.
Rehoming criteria: She has as delightful temperament, but needs a very active home where she is being useful. She currently has an hour a day walking but needs at least twice that to be contented. She is very chilled at the end of the day, but needs to be exercised –physically and mentally, so a working pet home would be ideal.
Child friendly: Yes very – but is boisterous so would recommend living with older children or no children.

Happy Ending: Tia was rehomed long ago.  (10/06/10)

TIA

History: Tia came into the Blue Cross in Kimpton from Northern Ireland so we unfortunately have limited history on her. She was rehomed but was returned to the Blue Cross after four weeks as her owners could not cope with her.
Description: Tia is a fit, active collie who loves to run and play. She is a bossy girl who would love to live with other dogs that she could boss around! She can be nervous of strangers but with the right handling, soon comes around. She is easily distracted by other dogs/wildlife etc but we are overcoming this with training. She loves her toys especially a good game of tug and this is working well as a reward for her giving attention to her handlers. She is housetrained and is good in the car.
