Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 17 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: Annie has been rehomed.  (24/06/11)

ANNIE

History: Annie was a stray from Ireland. She arrived at Dogs Trust centre in September 2010 and was re-homed to a single mum, with four young kids. Mum couldn’t cope with Annie’s level of activity. She was returned to Dogs Trust after two weeks, then re-homed again with us on 6 January. Her level of energy is beyond our ability to satisfy her needs. We would love to find her the home she deserves.
Description
: Annie is a Terrier mix. She is very intelligent, has immense energy, agility, speed, and curiosity. She is good natured, loves playing with other dogs. Very active during the day but settles well and happily at night where she sleeps in her crate that she loves.
Rehoming criteria: We think Annie would be ideal for agility training. She loves to be with other dogs, and needs a home where will receive lots of stimulation and company of other dogs and humans and with someone used to dealing with Annie’s level of energy.

Description: A striking Collie/Whippet cross, Buddy is a blue and white neutered boy. He is an active lad who has already received sound basic training and laps up learning new things. Happy Ending: Chalres has been rehomed.  (24/06/11)

CHARLES 1

History: Came in originally as a stray from Ireland with no history. We suspect that he might have been a lap dog for a older person but he is way too bright to be a lap dog and has clearly been bored and frustrated by being brighter than his owner, learnt how to manipulate his owner and generally when he came in acted like a spoilt brat! Didn't take him long to learn a better way and just needs someone to continue that training.
Description: Red spitz type. We get a lot of interest from 'pet owners' cos he's 'cute' but he needs a working home. He's too bright for the average owner. He knew nothing when he came in but picked up sit and down the fastest I've ever known a dog and I've met a lot. Would make a fab medium for someone who wants to go somewhere but a real trial for someone who can't keep ahead of him. Works for toys and treats.
Rehoming criteria: All members of family and any existing dogs will have to come to the centre to meet before he will be able to go home. Adopters can be anywhere in the country provided they are happy to travel. Adopters will have to attend a talk.
Child friendly:
depends on experience but not advised as he is too quick to take advantage.

Happy Ending: Charlie 112404 has been adopted and found his forever home with a family looking for a small dog to do agility with which is a bonus for us here as that is just what we wanted for him.

CHARLIE 112404

History: Charlie came to us as his previous owners felt they did not have enough time or space for him due to having four other dogs. He has had a few homes in his short life. He has had negative handling in his previous home which has made his nervousness worse.
Description: Charlie is a small crossbreed. He looks like a Tibetan Spaniel X. He is black and fluffy and will need regular grooming once he has bonded with his new family and grooming has been made a positive experience for him. He is am extremely clever, busy lad who enjoys learning new tricks and he picks tricks up fast. He knows sit, down, high 5 (one paw raised high), high 10, (two paws raised high and tapped on your hands). He dances, too. He has started learning Agility here with us and loves it. He can be left in the home alone for 4hrs, and he is house trained and will tell you when he needs the toilet if you miss his signals.
Rehoming criteria:  Charlie must have an experienced, positive reward based training / life home. He is a keen, eager to please lad with lots of energy and never seems to tire. He can live with other dogs, some he likes straightaway and some he will bark at.
Child friendly: No, best not, as he has been snappy in his previous home. This could be due to his owners inappropriate response when he was worried.
Able to live with cats: No

Happy Ending: Finn has found a new home.  (02/06/11)

FINN

History: Finn has been returned to Lizzie's Barn rescue as being too excitable, especially around the ball. He is currently being fostered by Ursula Groos.
Description: Finn is a black and white short-coated Border Collie. He is still very young and puppy like. He is good with other dogs, horses, children and loves people. Finn likes to be out and do things, and he can run like the wind. I feel that Finn would thrive in Agility. He is eager to please and very attentive and loves his toys. Finn has no real hang ups. When out and about with other dogs, he gets a bit nippy with the other dogs, but not over the top. He is very friendly and careful with unknown dogs. All in all, he is a great companion. He is not a manic collie and indoors he is quite chilled and laid back.
Rehoming criteria: Finn would like an active home where he will be kept busy.

Happy Ending: George has been rehomed. (15/06/11)

GEORGE

History: Not much is known about George as he came over from Ireland and was in the pound. Since being with us he has learnt to sit and is starting to learn what an off switch is!
Description: George is a slim-built working strain lab. He has long legs and an athletic build. He is very high drive and loves a cuddle. He is good with other dogs, although he will need to learn some manners as he can be a bit ott. He will need basic training, as he is very strong on the lead, he is learning to play with toys. George will also need some help not to chase cars. He is improving daily and with continued training this should easily be sorted. He loves people.
Rehoming criteria: George will need an active home where he can use his boundless energy and brain power. He likes the company of other dogs, although would be equally happy on his own. He will need someone around for part of the day to help with his basic training needs, or someone prepared to put in the work that will be needed.

History: Leo needs a new home due to the fact that his owner has young children and struggling to cope with three lively Collies. She is rehoming two as they are not getting exercised and are not in the best situation.

Happy Ending: Marlowe has been rehomed.  (24/06/11)

MARLOWE

History: Marlowe was originally rehomed as a young puppy but owing to the family obtaining a female collie, when she matured, regular arguments developed between the dogs, probably due to a very unclear hierarchy in the home. Despite our best efforts to provide advice to retain Marlowe in the home, his owners decided to return him to us. He was subsequently rehomed but was returned as he was showing aggression when certain triggers in the home occurred such as the doorbell and telephone ringing.
Description: Marlowe is a fabulous dog in his kennel. Unfortunately, a home environment is proving challenging to him. He gives us no problems when out walking and is not aggressive towards people or other dogs. He is completely and utterly toy motivated and will do anything for a ball to be thrown.
Rehoming criteria: Marlowe now definitely needs a 'collie minded' owner who will address his problems in the home and have an understanding of his triggers. If he is to go into a multiple adult home, all adults will need to deal with his behaviour on an equal basis and a clear hierarchy will have to be established.
Child friendly: Due to Marlowe's behaviour in a home, sorry no.

Happy Ending: Max has found a  new home.  (06/06/11)

MAX

History: Max originally came to us with his brother Ben at six months after living in a crate for 23 hours a day. They were also picked on by the children in the family so both came to us. They were worked with and became super dogs and were rehomed. Sadly Max has had to come back to us as his owner has had an accident and can no longer physically cope with him, although he is a sweet gentle boy.
Description: Max is Tri-colour, very friendly and loves other dogs and people, although will chase cats. He is a bright and intelligent dog and would love to do further obedience training and is a good age to also do some agility training.

Happy Ending: Misty has found a new home.  (07/06/11)

MISTY

History: Misty was bought from a breeder by a farmer with intentions of breeding from her, but she has been spayed. She is currently still living at the farm until we find her a nice home to call her own. She gets on well with all the farm dogs and has lived in a house before as well, so she is house trained.
Description: Misty is a leggy cattle dog and not like the show lines. She is about the size of a smaller lab. She is a loving dog who likes other dogs and people including children. She is very, very lively and would make a great ABC dog.
Rehoming criteria: Misty needs a home where she can continue her training and needs someone around for part of the day. She will need to do training of some kind as she is just looking for things to do all the time. Misty will be a very loyal dog for someone, and whoever takes on this beautiful dog will be very lucky!

Happy Ending: Mojo has now gone to his forever home and is settling in very well, behaving himself with the cat and guinea pigs! (16/06/11)

MO-JO

History: Mo-Jo was adopted by a young man who really had no idea of what he was taking on in terms of either time and commitment. Whilst he loved Mo-Jp, he has come to realise he cannot meet his needs and, therefore, made the decision to rehome him. He is in a lovely foster home with another dog but desperately needs a home of his own as soon as possible. He had been left all day by his former owner while he went to work for 7-8 hours and not walked at all so he is delighted with his current foster home which is already 100 times better!
Description: He is beautiful! A short-coated brindle lurcher, he looks like a small greyhound and has stunning markings. He has the sweetest nature, not an ounce of malice in him. He is housetrained but did have the odd wee indoors when he was left for such a long time. He knows basic commands, sit and down and has some recall but will need further training. He is a very loving dog and enjoys playing with toys. He not had boundaries and will jump up and mouth; his former owner encouraged this and also allowed him on furniture/beds etc so these things all need to be addressed in time. I think he would definitely benefit from the company of other dogs as he is very playful and would love a job to do such as agility or just an active pet home. He seems quite bright and a quick learner and is certainly keen to please.
Rehoming criteria: An active pet or agility home where he will have company and love.
Child friendly:
Yes, very loving with children but very bouncy so confident/older children
Able to live with cats: Not tested, possibly with very confident cat that would stand it's ground!

Happy Ending: Ollie the Collie has been rehomed.  (24/06/11)

OLLIE the COLLIE

History: We have no background information on Ollie.
Description: This boy acts like a typical collie. It is obvious that he received some training in his former home and is very biddable. He is very friendly when out and about with people and other dogs. Even when a female dog had a pop at him, he did not retaliate. He is extremely stressed in kennels and we are desperate for a home for him. He will definitely need an active home with a hobby to keep him busy. Ollie is very responsive and will give 110% back to his owners.
Rehoming criteria: Ollie the Collie needs someone with prior collie experience and knowledge who appreciates how active he will be but we believe that someone looking for a collie would do wonders with him.

Happy Ending: Oscar has gone to an experienced collie home. (06/06/11)

OSCAR (UPDATED)

History: Oscar was handed into rescue as his family found his collie energy levels too demanding.
Description:
A smooth coated, tri coloured, leggy collie lad. this young man is amazing, not only in look but in temperament. He is clever, good looking with his stunning ice blue eyes, and well behaved. In a nutshell, Oscar is crate trained, house trained, not noisy, travels very well, has manners and loving with people. The best thing of all is that he has a 'switch off button!' After a walk, he will just calm down and have a sleep. Oscar has picked up clicker training with ease, and is so eager to please. He has already learnt sit, down, flat and we are working on a heel position. He will wait at gateways whilst out and has a good recall off lead. Oscar is currently living with seven other dogs of various breeds.
Rehoming criteria:  He would be perfect to work in any discipline, but especially agility, HTM or obedience as he has the ability to listen when needed, but then be calm when not. He would be a great addition to an competitive home.

Happy Ending: Sally has been rehomed.  (24/06/11)

SALLY

History: Sally has been in rescue now for over 3 months, What a waste  - this girl is a superb friend, waiting for the right home, she is only about 18 months old. This girl is wasted living in kennels.
Description: Sally is ball orientated and loves to play and is speed on legs at flyball.  A pleasure to be around, she is always nice and sweet and smiling, but then those little pixie ears prick up and she looks like a pharoah hound. She has a lovely temperament and has mixed with any dog that she has met.  She is also great with people of all ages – we haven’t seen any aggression in her at all. Sally is very energetic and would be an escape artists. She is fine to be left for a few hours and is as clean as people can humanely expect her to be.  She loves warmth and comfort, affection and human company, but is a very switched on girl when out walking.  However, play ball with her and she’s a dream.
Rehoming criteria: Sally would easily live with other dogs – but couldn’t live with any small furries or cats.  Sally is not to be rehomed as a working dog and the owner must be very savvy about dogs that can run. If you want a dog to love, go out running with but that is happy to not have you at home all day and to live in a flat?  Sally could be the girl for you.  We all love her to bits, there must be a right home out there for her.
