Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 8 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

 MARCH 2009

Happy Ending: Aslan has gone to a new home, thank you. (15/03/09)

ASLAN

History: Aslan came originally from Ireland as a stray with no history.
Description: He's a cute little chap that gets lots of interest but he is stressed in kennels and needs time to adapt to a new home. So far no one has given him more than a few days. Previous adopters have ignored advice to take things slowly and have rushed him and had problems due to him being over tired. A very cute, black and tan long-legged JRT type. A good prospect for Small agility, he loves toys and treats. He is bright and keen to learn and picks up new things quickly. He has lots of get up and go.
Rehoming criteria: He can be homed with other dogs. All members of family and existing dog will have to come to the centre to meet before he will be able to go home. Adopters can be anywhere in the country provided they are happy to travel. Adopters will have to attend a talk.

Happy Ending: Ben the Collie x from HULA has been rehomed. (30/03/09)

BEN

History: Ben came to HULA as a stray.
Description: Ben is a friendly dog who enjoys human company. He is a Collie X with a short coat. He's
an affectionate dog who has a lot of love to give to his new owners and would make a rewarding pet for someone who is looking for a lively new addition to their household. Ben is a very lively dog who loves going for walks and playing. He has been in kennels for a while so it will take him time to adjust back in to a home environment. It is not known how he behaves with other pets but he may benefit from living with another dog.
Rehoming criteria: He requires an active owner who is willing to give him the exercise he needs. Ben can be a little bit boisterous and jump up which is the reason we'd prefer for him to go to a home with older children. He would also benefit from training classes.

Happy Ending: Flirt has found a loving new home.  (23/03/09)

FLIRT

History: Flirt is a 14 week old male puppy who came in with his brother. He is being fostered in Southampton.
Description: Flirt is a beautiful black and white very fluffy collie, with excessive Naughty spots! A typical, happy go lucky pup who will need a job when he is older.
Rehoming criteria: We want Flirt to go to an active home with at least one other dog to play with, and a home that will not leave him all day. He is in need of a special home, as he is a pure bred collie and will need a busy lifestyle with people willing to give the time and energy to train him.

Happy Ending: One of the members of staff at CDRS has offered to take on Ludo. (22/03/09)

LUDO

History: Ludo was originally rescued from Wales but since then has been living happily at a stables until a change in the owner's circumstances sadly prompted his return to the Rescue Centre.
Description: A tri-colour WSD, Ludo is a very genuine, loving dog, with lots of energy . He loves to be around other dogs and is well behaved both on and off lead. He is happiest when outdoors walking or playing with toys.He is house trained and crate trained and travels well in a car. Ludo would love to be offered a new home, perhaps with an established bitch, where he will have lots of company, attention and someone to build on his good levels of basic obedience.
Rehoming criteria: Agility would bring out the best in him as he is so keen to please and responds well to firm, fair handling and is already showing great promise with introductory activities at the Centre.
Child friendly: Older children
Able to live with cats:  Has lived with a cat but perhaps better without.
Age: Approximately  18 months

Happy Ending: Netty has found a new forever home and she joins her new family this weekend. (30/03/09)

NETTY

History: Netty is currently in the care of Southern Lurcher Rescue in Essex. She is Whirrier (whippet x terrier). Little Netty was rehomed to a lovely couple but unfortunately Netty was getting travel sick and so travel was restrictive for them. She was being left at home and started to get anxious when they were out and chewed at the door frames. Whilst Netty has been in our care she had been crate trained, but her adopters did not feel able to put her in a crate and so didn't use one. Netty has come back to her fosterer and has slotted back in with the foster family dogs and she popped herself into the crate for a snooze!
Description: Netty is a very  bright, responsive dog, with lots of energy and enthusiasm. She
has been off-lead and her recall is good for a treat. Her travel sickness is getting better and can now travel up to 15 miles without being sick. She has more terrier in her than lurcher and is around 19in. We think would love to have a go at flyball or agility with a new owner. She loves walks and gets along with all the dogs she has walked with. She truly is a lovely little girlie. Do you have room for a little one in your life?
Rehoming criteria: Netty would rather be homed with another dog, or have some children to play with. She is only a little dot and a good little one at that. Netty loves cuddles and has met and wagged at lots of children on her walks. Netty does need a 6 foot fence in the garden where she will live. She will reward her adopters with endless love and cuddles.
Child friendly:
Yes
Able to live with cats: No, cats are not her favourite creatures in the world.
Age: nearly 2
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes

Happy Ending: Prince is going to his new home on Friday. (19/03/09)

PRINCE III

History:  Prince came from a local pound and has been in kennels for over nine months.
Description: Prince is a handsome collie X Greyhound who is very intelligent and loyal to anyone that has the time and fun to offer him. He walks well on the lead and comes when called. Prince loves to play with toys and will fetch a ball.
Rehoming criteria: Prince really needs 2009 to be his year to find a loving family. I'm sure he would love Agility or Flyball and long walks. He needs someone to be around most of the day as he frets when left for long periods, he would suit an active single person or a couple rather than with a busy family but could be okay with older children. He would love a home either on his own or with a bitch.  A homecheck and vet reference is required and must be happy to travel to meet Prince.

Happy Ending: Rosy has found a loving new home.  (23/03/09)

ROSY

History: This is Rosy. She was Romany when she lived with us before after coming here as a failed sheep dog. Rosy is as sweet as can be here but when she got to her new home and found her feet she was hard work and even tried to bite visitors.
Description: Rosy is a stunning medium coated tri collie. She is super quick to learn stuff, and so needs a job to use up some of her extensive brain! She needs a collie savvy home. Her old owners bought her to me (Leah) for a training lesson as she was chasing cars and they had tried a behaviourist who could not stop her. In around 30 seconds, she stopped and was doing heel work like an obedience champion. She is only young and will learn best with another very stable dog to teach her. She needs very clear cut handling, then she respects and works with you like a star.
Rehoming criteria: Personally I feel she needs an active collie home that will give her a job and also make her understand the pack. If I did not have so many I would take her on, but I will train her each day. She must go to an active adult home. She needs a job and I feel she would excel in agility. We would like her to go to a home where she will not be left all day.
Child friendly:
Not to be homed with kids
Able to live with cats: can test
Age: Nearly 2 years
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Yes

Micro-chipped: Yes

Happy Ending: Rufus has now been rehomed. (20/03/09)

RUFUS

History: Rufus came into us from the local pound
Description: Tri colour collie x spaniel. He is highly chase driven, however he will focus quickly onto a toy. He has an amazing amount of potential and once he settles into work is quick and eager to please. Has begun some basic clicker work and is responding well. Rufus can clear a full height fence from a standstill, although we haven’t encouraged this! He does have problems with food around other dogs but mixes well and appears to only be silly when there is food or high value items around.
Rehoming criteria: Rufus desperately needs an experienced, active working home.
Child friendly:
Due to the above issues, extreme care will need to be taken around children.
Able to live with cats: High chase drive so care needs to be taken.
Age: 12 months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: £75.00 donation
