Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 12 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: Alfie has been successfully rehomed

ALFIE

History: We have had Alfie since he was an eight week old puppy. He is American bred and we have full documentation of his pedigree and medical history. We have done a lot of training with Alfie since he was a puppy. He has recently been working on the good canine citizen certificates. He has also done agility and heelwork to music. He is an absolute pleasure to train and thrives on it. He is particularly adept at agility and heelwork to music and has competed a few times at dog shows. However, we have been unable to bring him on further due to time constraints looking after a young family. Sadly we have reached the painful decision to rehome Alfie for the reason that he is timid around children he doesn’t know and has occasionally nipped.
Description: Alfie is a very obedient and intelligent dog. He is excellent off the lead.
Rehoming criteria: We feel he would be most suited to an active home and preferably one where he would be able to continue training and agility etc.
Child friendly: He does not enjoy attention from unknown children. This is the reason we are rehoming him, therefore feel he should go to a home without young children, although he is okay around our children.
Able to live with cats: Does not live with a cat permanently but does when on holiday with family with no problems.
Age: 5 years
Sex: Male
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes

Update: We've just heard that Alfie has been rehomed. (08/02/11)

Another Update: Unfortunately our home for Alfie fell through so we are now looking for another home for him. I just wondered if you still had his details and could put him back on your rescue page? I did get a lot of interest through agility net which was great.  (22/02/11)

ANDY

History: Andy was brought to Tip-Top dog rescue after being picked up as a stray.
Description: Andy is such a happy little dog. He's just bursting with enthusiasm for everything he does. He’s very keen to please, ball obsessed, greedy, and loves to jump. He seems fine with other dogs.

They can both now sit, down, stand and have started to learn wait. They are calm about the house and settle when left. They get on well with the other 6 dogs they are currently living with. Both greet dogs and people sensibly. When out on a walk they love to run and run, but have good recalls. They are wary of my horses and show no chases tendencies.

Happy Ending: The great news is that both Cain and Abel have now found homes! Abel, the livelier of the two, has gone to be a working dog / pet and is loving the life.  Cain has gone to live with a 12 year old collie and is having a fantastic time out and about on the beach, long walks in the woods etc. (08/05/11)

CAIN & ABLE

History: Cain and his brother Abel were impulse buys. The family saw a sign offering Border Collie pups and decided to get one. They could not decide between the pair so got a BOGOF offer and brought them both home. Now the dogs are growing bigger and livelier the family realised they did not really want one dog let alone two and the pups were signed over to rescue.
Description: They are mainly black on the back, white bib, belly, paws, and face. Cain has a black spot on his head and Abel has a black stripe on his head. They are typical collies. When in the run they will race up and down barking at everything. Out of the run they mix well with other dogs. In the exercise field they will give the person with them their full attention.
Rehoming criteria:  They will require homes with new owners who understand a collie's needs, have mental stimulation as well as exercise and a secure garden.

Happy Ending: Charlie has gone to a fantastic home with a pack of rescues all doing agility, flyball and gundog work!   (08/05/11)

CHARLIE

History: Charlie came to the Blue Cross due to his owners not being able to give him the exercise he needed, only walking him at weekends and leaving him at home all day. He lived with a teenager who used to walk him and another dog and cat, they all got along well, but he was worried when meeting strangers.
Description: Charlie is very handsome, Lab x Springer with all the energy to match! He was very worried upon arrival but has now built a strong bond with his handlers. Charlie just wants to work, he is ball mad and finds them for us, even when we don't know they are there! He doesn't really want much affection from people and he doesn't have time to stop!
Rehoming criteria: He is more of a working dog than a pet. He has started agility here and is really quick. Charlie has had a couple of bad experiences at the vet and will need a very sensitive vet to take it slow in his new home.

Happy Ending: Kiera is now reserved though not to an agility home however. (08/05/11)

KIERA

History: Kiera was handed in to the Blue Cross because she was barking when left alone at home. She has not had a great start to life and has had two homes already with busy families who couldn't give her what she needed. Kiera is now our longest staying dog but we don't know why; she is so affectionate and bright, and picking up everything we teach her.
DescriptionKiera is a pretty black & tan collie cross who is super quick! We have gotten to know Kiera well during her time with us, we have taught her how toy play with manners and all the basics. She is so toy focused she whizzes round the agility course without effort and is always ready for more (we struggle to tire her out)! Kiera has a couple of doggy friends but they have to be calm and well mannered as she is not overly tolerant of OTT dogs.
Rehoming criteria: Kiera is very people focused and loves attention and affection and will settle eventually. We think she is a potential agility star.

History: Mimi came over from an Irish rescue, she was in foster for a while there with her brothers and sisters, as they were in bad condition. Her mum was a German Shepherd and her dad a collie.
Description: Mimi has the GSD looks and the collie build! She is full of energy and loves people and life, she likes to play with her toys. She is good with other dogs, but actually prefers to be with people.
Rehoming criteria: Mimi will require someone around for part of the day in view of her age, and she will need to be housetrained, although she is quite good at going out, she stays with you even when off lead. She will need firm boundries as she is quite a determined young lady when she wants something!

Happy Ending: Polly Pocket now has a home. (08/05/11)

POLLY POCKET

History: Polly is a rescue dog who came from owners who could not provide her with the stimulation she needs.
Description: Polly is a Medium agility prospect or flyball dog, standing just over 40cms/400mm at the shoulder. Polly is a pretty black and white farm bred Welsh Collie type with a good level of fitness and excellent stamina. She has a desire to please and will do anything for her tennis ball or football! She is affectionate when she gets to know people but can be a bit nervous collie to start with. She is fine with dog savvy children provided they give her space to start with. She is unconcerned by other dogs on first meeting but gets on well with them in a home environment. Polly is very intelligent so would learn the job quickly and he is extremely fast. She is currently fostered (not kenneled) with other dogs. Polly needs some further training to really bring her out of herself and use her brain. She will walk nicely on lead after the initial excitement and is excellent off lead. She is fine to be left for short periods and is not destructive in the home. She is house trained.
Rehoming criteria:  Polly needs a home that will use positive training methods to entertain her brain as well as provide her with the exercise she needs. She would be best with another older steady dog to help her improve her confidence. We believe with training that there is little that Polly won't put her mind too!
Child friendly:
Yes, older dog savvy children only.
Able to live with cats: Yes, with careful introductions.
Age: 2 years old
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Not yet but will be before rehoming or will go on a neutering agreement.

Happy Ending: This boy has waited so long for a home. Sylvia at Many Tears was adamant that he belonged in an Agility home. It would have been a waste for him to go anywhere else.

ZAN

HistoryZan was originally rehomed from us as a pup to someone that wanted to compete in Agility. They became ill and then had a baby so Zan is now looking for a handler that can match his enthusiasm and ability.
Description: Zan has brains and agility to die for. He has already had agility training and can do all of the obstacles. As you can see from his picture he has a fantastic attitude & ability for agility.
Rehoming criteria:
He needs an experienced kelpie home where he can get clear cut firm but kind handling. He will need a home with someone who is actively taking part in some sort of sport whether it is fell walking, cross country running, agility or something busy. If you had a Ferrari you would keep it finely tuned. Zan needs the same attention.
Child friendly:
He was unsure of the new baby but didn’t show any other problems

He needs a home without cats or small dogs.
