Lucky dogs
The
fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs
have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear
anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month nine dogs found new homes, many of them
going to agility homes so watch out for them on the show circuit.
Dogs are featured in alphabetical
order.

Happy Ending:
Initially Darcy was adopted with an
aim of doing agility with him, but he was returned as he was too boisterous for their
small dog. What a shame as he was really keen and very fast to learn what was required!
He has now gone to another home with no small dogs or children to worry about.
(26/11/10) |
DARCY
History:
Darcy was purchased from me (his breeder) to be trained to do Obedience. Unfortunately
his training was allowed to lapse during the winter and for that period he had very
little socialisation and was returned to me after Crufts as
his owner said she couldn't cope with him as he had become very boisterous. He has recently been out to a home where they hoped to do agility with him and were
delighted with how trainable he is, but he has proved to be too rough and boisterous for
their other dogs.
Description: Handsome red
with white chest. KC registered. Both parents have below breed average hip scores and
current eye certificates. He has had some Obedience training and a small
amount of agility training – is already jumping small jumps as directed. He knows the
solid tunnel and has been up and down a lowered ramp. Very fast and
enthusiastic. I have spent a lot of time socialising him and he settled back in with my girls
without any problems, as if he gets too rough they quickly put him in his place.
He will guard his food from other dogs/animals but does not have an issue
with people touching his food bowl and has enough manners to wait until told to
eat.
Rehoming
criteria:
He really needs someone who can devote time to improving his manners and training him to
do something that will challenge him enough divert his boundless energy. Needs to go to a knowledgeable home as if
he is not kept in his place he will try to take over. Any dogs in the
household need to be confident enough not to be worried by his boisterous behaviour. He
is still wary of people he does not know, particularly men, but once he trusts you is
very affectionate and could become possessive of his owner if allowed.
Child friendly: Sensible older children as he can get overexcited when
playing

Happy Ending:
Gael the white pup from DT has
gone to a home who have had deaf dogs before. (20/11/10) |
GAEL
History:
Gael came into the centre with her sister as the result of an accidental merle to merle
mating. Gael was believed to be deaf and her sister, Fern is blind so could not be sold!
They are both in a foster home in
Bristol and are both looking for forever
homes.
Description: Gael is a very confident and
happy pup. Despite initially believing that she was deaf her fosterer reports that she
definitely has some hearing. She is going to be medium/long coated. She is predominantly
white with lots of merle patches on her body. She is a typical collie girl - very bright,
toy and food motivated. She is living in a foster home with other dogs.
Rehoming criteria:
We would love a
working home for this girlie where she can do lots of fun things to keep her mentally and
physically stimulated.

Happy Ending: Lucky Gem has found a great new agility home.
(17/11/10) |
GEM
History:
Gem is now in her third home through no fault of her own. She has just been places which
have proved unsuitable for a collie pup.
Description:
Gem is a pretty, black and white medium-coated collie, very friendly to people and other
dogs - she is one of nine here. Because of her history, she is a little clingy and
worried if she is left alone, although she seems fine when left with my other dogs, and
she is crated alone at night. She has some basic obedience, is house trained and is fine
off lead. She is very playful and will bring toys back to you. She has been very good
with the horses here. Really I can't fault her. She just needs to develop some self
confidence by having a permanent home and a job to do.
Rehoming criteria:
Someone who can channel her energy in to something useful and where she is not left all
day, another dog/s would be useful but not essential.

Happy Ending: Piper has been rehomed. (10/11/10) |
PIPER
History:
Piper came from the pound so we have no history.
Description:
Piper is a strong collie type of maxi height. He has one blue and one brown eye. He is
very high energy and loves being trained and walking. He is crate trained, travels well,
is good with other dogs and is very responsive. He is toy orientated and likes to play
tug with his lead on walks. He would be fab at agility as he has bundles of energy and a
real mind to try to please.
Rehoming criteria:
Piper has had a rough start but is a lovely dog looking for a forever home either on his
own or with others where he will get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
He is
with fourpawsanimal rescue so normal terms apply.

brother pups were taken to the vets because the breeder didn't want them.
Description: Spot and Flash
are black and white farm bred border collies. WE only have a picture of one. (See left)

TWIX
History:
Twix was
brought into the rescue centre after breaking his leg in kennels. Not much is known about
his previous life.
Description:
Fun!Fun!Fun! Twix is a very, very happy chappy and has got on
with everyone and other dogs since arriving, despite having to have six weeks crate rest
for his leg. Yes, he did break his lower front leg but it's healed nicely and we think
with a bit of TLC and muscle building, that this leg should not give him problems. He is
looking for a fun, lively home where someone will appreciate how much energy this dog has
got.
Rehoming
criteria: Preferably someone who knows their terriers, although he may
well go well with a first time terrier owner if they are sensible. We want to ensure this
youngster retains his friendly nature. New owners also need to appreciate his front leg
and work required to build up the muscle tone carefully.
Being a
terrier type, he doesn't always do as he's asked but he's also keen to
please. Therefore a home that has an interest in giving dogs extra training would be a
bonus.
Child friendly: Yes, very. He does jump and bounce
around so children over four years please.
