Lucky dogs
The
fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs
have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear
anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 14 dogs found new homes, many of them
going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.
Dogs are featured in alphabetical
order.

BEN
History:
We have come to the sad decision to re-home Ben as we are not able to give him what he
needs. He can be very territorial, which is causing problems with the
neighbour’s dogs and our cat has had little peace since we had him. After two and
half years, we admit that they are not ever going to be compatible in the same house.
Description:
White with tan and black markings. Very attractive with a cheeky glint in his eye. He is
very intelligent, lovable and affectionate. He loves agility, especially being on the dog
walk and A-frame. I am sure he likes the extra height.
Rehoming
criteria: Ben
needs an experienced owner who has more determination than we do. I think he would be
better with a bitch rather than a dog as he is quite dominant.

Benson has been rehomed. (30/09/09)
|
BENSON
History:
Benson lost his home after being tormented by a toddler.
Description: He is a young terrier who has
the same stature and terrier ways as a Patterdale but we guess
he has Staffie heritage due to his brindle coat. He certainly
has the loving nature common to both. Benson is housetrained and has basic commands. Benson
is quick to learn, food orientated and good to handle. He is inclined to jump and will grab
sleeves, but if told not to in a forthright manner he stops immediately. If
I was looking for a medium height non-collie agility dog I would seriously consider him, he
shows focus, enthusiasm and is desperate for some 1-1 interaction, therefore he is very
trainable and is quick to learn.
Rehoming
criteria: he
would cope well in a terrier experienced home who can give him his confidence back and
offer him experience in melding in the 'big outdoors'. He is fun to walk and his dog
skills are fine, just a little clumsy as with so many terriers of his age. Benson is a
sweetheart...whose home must just around the corner. His assessor has said, 'He does
initially have high energy levels, but I find him an absolute delight.'
Child friendly: Benson
did cope well in a busy young family, but perhaps better to live
with older children.
Able to live with

but he passed the Chicken & Horse Test with flying colours!

Ellie has gone to

with lots of space to run around. (17/09/09)
|
ELLIE
History:
Ellie came from
Lancashire to the Spot having been in several homes
before. She is currently
being fostered.
Description:
Ellie is a mismarked, black and white with very slight tan markings on her legs Border
Collie. She is very dainty and quite small (approx. 46cm),
very light on her feet, fast and she turns quickly. She has no hang ups whatsoever. She
is lovely with people, great with dogs she meets. She is a bit jumpy when you raise your
voice and then she submits, but I thinks that is a confidence
thing. She has a lovely recall and always checks if you are around. She is clever, busy
and playful. She loves food, doesn't know toys yet, but I am sure that comes with time.
She is house trained and has a few basic commands. She is a real sweetheart and just
wants to please and be loved. She is very agile and can run like the wind.
Rehoming

Jasper has found a new home now.
She is very happy and enjoying life now. (09/09/09) |
JASPER
History:
Jasper as been with me and my two children since she was six weeks old. She is a lovely
dog but unfortunately I have had to make the decision to rehome her. Firstly, I cannot
give Jasper the exercise and the training she needs and she has now become destructive
around the house. The other problem is my daughter was attacked by another dog (not
Jasper) and has now become nervous around Jasper. It is becoming very difficult to
control the situation.
Description: Jasper
is black and white and very energetic. She loves to please you
by doing what you ask her to and likes to learn. Jasper can occasionally be nervous
meeting new people but she does get over it quite quickly.
Rehoming
criteria:
She
will need to be homed with an experienced person as she has now become in charge at home
and she will need to be shown that’s not how it should be! She loves to chase a ball and
will do almost anything for treats. I have been told by an agility trainer that she would
learn quickly what to do and would be good, but we haven't made it to the classes yet.

Jerry is now homed - another
lucky boy gone to an agility home. (17/09/09)
|
JERRY
History:
Jerry was purchased as a puppy and then sold to a lady with kids, lots of them. It drove
this poor lad bonkers, running around playing and eventually nipping the heels, so he had
to go and eventually has arrived at Valgrays.
Description:
Jerry is a stunning red tri-colour with a wonderful nature.
He is just very ott and on the go, not an ounce of malice in
him. As long as you can get some control back into him he will make a smashing working
dog. He pulls like a train but is better off lead - perfect with others dogs, people,
kids and horses. He travels well in the car and does not mind being in a crate. He was
very good in his kennel and very clean. If this pup can get some ground work put into him,
he will be a fab prospect for agility, obedience,
flyball. He is a blank canvas so
what ever you put into him now will be his making.
Rehoming

been stolen along with two others. He has now been returned to an overjoyed owner. A word
of warning however. If he had been microchipped, he would have been reunited sooner. And
by the way, Val microchipped him before he went home. Thanks, Val.

JJ (PIG)
History:
JJ was a stray who has done his seven days, He was picked up
in a terrible condition, full of worms and fleas and was very dirty, He is now at
Valgrays waiting to find his forever home.
Description:
As you can see he is a cheeky JR< He would be a Medium size if someone wanted him him for
agility. He is loving, fun and a good little boy, great with other dogs, people and kids.

Happy Ending: Joe has gone to a marvellous agility couple.
They met at Barnard Castle show and now he is doing what he loves best. (17/09/09)
|
JOE
History: Joe has been
with his owner since he was a puppy and, as her health has deteriorated it has become
harder for her to give him what he needs. After just a week he has just been returned
from a non-collie household whom said he did not get on with young children, although
this had not previously been a problem. He is a much loved boy whom needs to go to a
loving home.
Description:
He is a very handsome tri-coloured boy. He has a few collie traits such as
Hoover herding etc. but these should be overcome with an
experienced owner. He is a very toy and food motivated dog and he really wants to work. He has had agility training with a
Grade 7 handler and he shows great potential.

she seems absolutely fine.
Description:

PEPPA
History:
Peppa was placed in rescue as owner didn't have enough time
for her.
Description:
She is a very pretty girl with a wonderful nature, She has lived outside most of her life
but stayed in foster home where she was very well behaved as long as she was given enough
exercise. She has bags of energy but will happily curl up at your feet at
night. She has a lot to learn but is responsive and
intelligent. She can be insecure with other dogs but has no aggression in her whatsoever.
Peppa has loads of potential as an agility dog in the right hands. She has been crate
trained and is clean in the house but will chew, if bored.
Rehoming
criteria:
She needs an
experienced owner that can bring her training on and understands that her lack of
socialization as a puppy means that she still doesn't understand that when she sees

History:

Description:

wonderful nature possible, loves her cuddles and kisses, but has not been seen much of
life, so is a little shy when you first meet her but that is soon getting less and less.

TOBY
History:
Toby came to the centre due to his owners not having enough time for him. He has had an
unsettled life so far and now needs a loving permanent new home.
Description:
Toby is an incredibly bright and active young Border Collie. He now needs a new home where
he can settle in and become the fantastic companion we believe he can be. Toby is a typical
Collie. He lives life at 100 miles an hour. Toby needs both
mental and physical stimulation to keep him happy. He is a joy to watch when he has
something to keep him busy. He would love an agility or flyball
home and we feel he would excel at a doggy sport. He loves his tennis balls and would love
to become a flyball star! Toby is very good with most other
dogs, but can be a bossy boots. He could live with an older sensible dog, but would be too
much for a younger impressionable dog. Toby is very affectionate and loves to learn,
and in the right home will be a lovely happy dog.
