Opening Communications Workshop
A weekend workshop, devised and presented by Rod Roberts, owner and trainer of the all time record holding dog in Working Trials.
Rod says 'Three of the most basic skills in dog training are Praising, Fussing, and Playing with your Dog. When these skills are mastered enhanced Relationship, Motivation, and Concentration will ensue.A dog’s confidence is normally event specific, with these skills that confidence can be lifted to the point where it becomes Self Esteem which is a confident in life. When you have created self esteem and increased motivation, and concentration. Your dog will be happy to work with you to a level rarely previously achieved. We will be working on improving your observational skills, increasing your understanding contextual or micro body language which is the dogs way of communicating with you.' The cost of the weekend Workshop is £140.00.

Canine Activity Holiday including Geocaching
Tired of going on walks to the same old places? Are you interested in a little adventure and playing with toys worth billions of pounds? Join us for an exciting and unusual five day activity holiday, Geocaching is a fun way for you and your dog to join together to discover new places. It is a treasure hunt, with boxes hidden all over the world. All it takes is a GPS unit which will be provided for your use during the course, the internet, and you and your dog - and you are set to go. The fun starts when someone hides a box, he or she then takes the GPS coordinates of the hiding place, and these are later used by others to find the box again. When someone hides the box there is always a GPS inaccuracy, so you and your dog will have to search for the box.

David Munnings Training Day
Dave Munnings has very kindly agreed to hold a training day on the Friday before the Waverunners UKA show at Apps Court Farm. Dave is one of the UK's top handlers, recently winning the large Crufts 2008 title with Dobby (Ag Ch Gunran Misteree) His training is fun and motivating - encouraging the handler and dog team to work well together. He is sympathic to those of us that cannot 'always get there' and his training is tailored for a winning combination of both the handler and dog team - it is definately not a 'one size fits all' training program! Dave has experience with training all breeds of dogs and handlers from starters (l1) to Advanced (L7) - Whatever level you currently work at - you are bound to get fantasic advice and guidance from this session.
The training day is open to all levels/abilities and all size dogs, and will be split into three two hour sessions at a cost of £25 per handler/dog.

UKRCB Annual Symposium: Constructional Aggression Treatment
The 16th Annual UKRCB Symposium sponsored by James Wellbeloved. This year’s topic is Constructional Aggression Treatment with speaker Kellie Snider, BSc, MSc, BCABA. Kellie completed her MSc at the University of North Texas in Behaviour Analysis and now holds the position of Manager of Animal Behaviour Programs for the SPCA of Texas.
Her thesis research project was based on working with aggressive dogs using a gentle form of Negative Reinforcement that involved shaping appropriate behaviour. Aggressive behaviour is replaced by providing the aggressive dog with distance from strangers or unfamiliar dogs when desirable behaviours are given. The success of the method is outstanding and it has found its way into dog behaviour work as a valuable tool in working with aggressive dogs. Suitable candidates who are dog to dog or dog to human aggressive are often friendly within a few days. Variations on the technique can also be used in working with separation anxiety and resource guarding problems. If you work with aggressive dogs, this work will change your world. We will be talking about canine aggression in a completely different way from what you've learned. We explore the genetic, dominance and instinct-based theories of the nature of aggression and replace them with our research which reveals aggression as a learned behaviour. Using the Constructional Approach we can change the aggressive dog into a friendly dog. We will present a training procedure that will provide trainers and pet owners the ability to make significant differences in dogs' behaviour. The research was conducted in the dogs' real lives, not in a laboratory. Pet owners and dog trainers are now taking it and using it with their real dogs in their real worlds with real success. In addition this work can be used with fearful animals, including feral cats, lamas and cattle. This is one seminar you don’t want to miss!!
Cost £50 (includes lunch) £45 for a group of 8+

Kennel Club Tour
Following on from several successful tours held already this year, the Kennel Club is continuing to open its doors to the public by offering the chance to see behind the scenes of its central London offices with a free guided tour. You are invited to see for yourself what the Kennel Club has to offer, and the efforts it makes to improve the health and welfare of thousands of dogs in the UK.
From September onwards, the Kennel Club will be running a new season of tours at its headquarters at Clarges Street in the heart of London. The tours will provide visitors with the opportunity to see first hand how the Kennel Club is an unparalleled source of information, experience and advice on dog welfare, health, training and breeding. Kennel Club members, Len Anness and Jimmy Keizer will be hosting the tours, which are led by Sue Sampson, the Kennel Club's Roadshow Manager.
There will also be the chance to appreciate the Art Gallery, which provides a permanent display area for important elements of the Kennel Club’s fascinating collection of artwork and ephemera, ensuring its long-term survival, preservation and growth. Visitors attending these tours will have the opportunity to see the Art Gallery’s forthcoming exhibition ‘British & Irish Vulnerable Breeds: An Exhibition of Art Portraying our Rarer Breeds of Dog’, which will feature a total of 24 British and Irish breeds.
Morning tours will commence at 11am and visitors are invited to arrive at Clarges Street from 10.30am onwards when refreshments will be served. We are also running a selection of afternoon tours, which will commence at 2.30pm, and visitors are invited to arrive from 2pm onwards. There is no charge to attend these tours.
Spaces for tours are allocated on a first come, first served basis. All tours must be booked in advance and lunch can be provided on request for a small charge. Bookings are also being taken for private groups of between 6-12 people at a charge of £5 per person. Private tours must be booked in advance and are subject to availability.
