SDOY News
As
most of the Scottish Handlers will hopefully know by now, Simon Green will be taking over as
Scottish Kennel Club (SKC) Agility Co-ordinator and Agility Competition Manager from Peter
Elms. He said, 'I would like to thank Peter for all his hard work in this role and running the
shows so successfully over the last few years.'
The SKC May show schedule will be available in early February. In the meantime, the rules for the Scottish Dog of the Year Competition which will be starting afresh in February are below. They are basically the same as last year except that points will be gained preferentially in combined classes rather than graded.
Dogs/handlers must live in Scotland.
Points will be gained by dogs eligible to compete at Grades 6 & 7.
The points will come from the first combined Agility class (grades 6 & 7) on the schedule of a Scottish show.
If there are no combined Agility classes specifically for grades 6 & 7, then it will be the first combined Agility class for which grades 6 & 7 are eligible.
If there are no combined classes, then it will be the first graded Agility class specifically for grades 6 & 7.
If there are is no specific graded 6 & 7 Agility class then it will be the first graded Agility class for which grades 6 & 7 are eligible
Only one class per day, as above.
The first 10 dogs in the Large size gain points. Ten points for the first placed dog to one point for the tenth placed dog.
The first six dogs in both Medium and Small sizes gain points. Six points to the first placed dog and one point to the sixth placed dog.
The top 20 placed large dogs and the top six placed Medium and Small dogs will be invited to compete in the final which is held at the SKC show in August.
The start date for 2008 was the 1 January 2008 and the cut-off date will be the closing date for the August Show.
Points will be updated ASAP in a list that will be available by clicking on the SKC link on the website http://www.daatc.org.uk/links.php
If anyone has any questions or inquiries about agility at the SKC, please feel free to contact him at simonrgreen@yahoo.com.

Barnstaple Show is Closed
Barnstaple & District Dog Training Society's limit show on 15 March 2008 is full. The number of large dogs has been increased to 200 and another Judge, Rose Chetwynd, has been added. There will be three rings, not two as previous planned. This is all to cover a huge increase in the hire of the venue.

European Open Qualifying Procedure
The qualifying system for the 2008 European Open has worked out very well and Great Britain will be represented by some excellent dogs from all height categories. In future, it is hoped that selection process should be done and dusted before the end of October, giving handlers more time to plan their time off work and also more time to get their dogs ready for travel.
Existing 2008 English shows holding a Combined G6-7 Agility Class - or those whose who wish to put on such a class - will be invited to designate the class as an E.O. Ranking Event. Competitors would enter these classes as normal, but gain points for the top ten places in much the same way as the Crufts Singles are calculated at present. i.e. 10pts for 1st down to 1pt for 10th. The top ten places would count regardless of whether rosettes went down to 10th.
These Ranking Events would be for all heights, but not necessarily at the same show. They would be open to all dogs that are eligible for Grade 6/7 regardless of whether they are pedigree or non-pedigree. The Combined G6-7 Agility Class can be a class that is already a qualifier, e.g. Crufts Singles, Olympia, or any other sponsored event. This system of selection would be for England.
The number of E.O. Ranking Events ideally would be 15 for Large, 10 for Medium and Small, spread across England in such a way as to reflect the number of handlers in particular areas. A points league table would be regularly updated and sent to all media outlets.
When the Ranking Events have finished, the top 30 Large, 10 Medium, 10 Small, (subject to change) will be invited to the 2009 Selection Day. Reserves would be taken in order from the final list.
The other Home Nations will put suggestions forward for their own areas.
A full list of Shows holding E.O. Ranking Events will be published as soon as possible. It is essential that all Show Managers forward the results of each Ranking Event class to the European Team Manager within two weeks of the show.

Calling all Disabled Handlers with a Sense of Adventure
There has been a good response to call for entry to the 2008 International Mix & Breed Championship Agility Show (IMCA) in Northern Italy, but so far the disabled handlers have been very quiet.
The Para Agility World Championships (PAWC) competition is to be held in Voghera (close to Milan) on 28-31 August. It is a wonderful opportunity to show off your handling skills and a chance in a lifetime to represent your county in an International Match, meet new people and just enjoy the occasion. The atmosphere of the event is like the friendliest local show you have been to and then a bit more. It is a relaxed holiday with your dog with an emphasis on the relaxed. Three runs in four days is almost horizontal!
In the past, teams from various European countries have participated including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom as well as Mexico, Japan, South Africa and United States.

Now
that clubs are getting back to training after the Christmas break, Val Clark would like to ask
that you to inform all your friends, acquaintances and club mates - especially those without a
computer or internet access - that the March C-Side Show reached the capped number several
weeks ago. No more entries will be accepted.
In addition, the waiting lists for March and now February has also been closed.

New rules have been issued by the Kennel Club for the Crufts Team Agility Competition to be run in 2008 for Crufts 2009. It will be run as a team relay with a baton change which should make it a faster and even more exciting event. Up to now the event consisted of four individual runs.
The new rules are as follows:

2008 marks two
very special anniversaries. It will be 30 years since Peter Meanwell lit up the main ring at
Crufts with a team competition similar to show jumping that he'd dreamed up with John Varley.
Five years later, this club, the Agility Club came into being, to help bring some order to the
many different rules that agility shows were running under, and to enable people throughout the
country to get information on shows being held, via the
Agility Voice.
The Agiity Club wanted to do something extra special to celebrate these two anniversaries, and so they decided to host the Agility Club Anniversary Awards and Gala Celebration, which will be held at Stoneleigh Park Exhibition and Conference Centre, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on Saturday 16th February 2008.
Elizabeth Morgan, Hon Sec of the Agiity Club said, 'We would like to thank our sponsors: principal sponsor Pedigree, main sponsors Genesis and Eukanuba, and all our category sponsors: Premier Show Jumps, Norton Rosettes, iShowServices and Doggie Solutions.'
The Gala Celebration will be a black tie dinner, followed by award presentations. There are ten categories, for which we are asking for nominations from Agility Club members: for more details follow these links categories and nomination form. If you are not already a member, there has never been a better time to join: as well as a year's subscription to the Agility Voice, members will enjoy discounts on club events, including the Gala Awards. For details of membership, click here.
Committee member and one of the event organisers, Jill Spurr explained 'We wanted to mark next year in a very special way. Having a BAFTA style awards ceremony will give everyone the chance to celebrate all that is good about agility, have a night to remember and hopefully raise a substantial sum of money for charity too.'
The Gala Awards is non-profit making and all profits will be donated to charity on the Gala evening

Fingal Dog Club (Republic of Ireland) has informed Agilitynet that it is changing its Agility Show from 7-8 June 2008 to 30-31 August 2008.
The corresponding dates for 2009 will be 29-30 August.

The full results for ALL classes at the Kennel Club International Agility Festival 2007 are now available online via the Kennel Club website on http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/566. Click the link for 'Results from the 2007 International Agility Festival'.
John Leslie at the WTOA Department at the Kennel Club said, ' Many apologies for the long time it has taken to get the last batch of classes up on the results web page. '
You can view Festival results class by class, or else by entering your own name you can view all the results for each of your dogs at the Festival. Why not check to see whether you might have won a place rosette you didn't know about? There are a number of unclaimed rosettes and even a couple of trophies at the Kennel Club which the KC will gladly forward to you if you claim by 31 January. Just email John Leslie at john.leslie -at - thekennelclub.org uk (replacing -at- by the '@' symbol of course) to claim rosettes. Please be sure to give your name, the dog's name and the class number and name, and of course a postal address.

Now
that the Christmas pud has finally been digested, the wrapping paper has been recycled and the
dogs have stopped bottom burping after their rich, festive diets, we can settle back and start
to plan the next year of Agility. For the more adventurous how about an international
competition in Northern Italy?
The 9th IMCA and 7th PAWC 2008 will take place from 28 - 31 August 2008 at Voghera, near to Milan. The competition is open to all pedigree and crossbreeds, all sizes and abilities. Any country can enter up to 15 dogs in the Individual classes and unlimited numbers in the Para-agility.
Join the team
Richard and Sheila Partridge, both of whom competed in Holland in 2006, have agreed to help
co-ordinate a team for 2008. Because this event is not supported or sponsored by any official
governing body or organisation, it will be necessary for team members to pay their own expenses
though from experience Richard and Sheila found the organisation easy and the cost, compared
with a similar type of holiday, pretty reasonable.
Most important, it takes about 7 ½ months to get a Pet Passport, so if you want to enter this - or take your dogs abroad this summer for any reason - you need to get the passport process started now.
There is a little more information regarding the event and venue on http://www.para-agility.nl/INFO%209e%20IMCA%20&%207e%20PAWC%202008.htm. Voghera is right at the top of the map in the centre!

Kennel Club Recognised for Its Contribution to Agility
The
Kennel Club has been formally recognised for all its hard work in the field of Agility, by
being nominated for two awards at the Agility Club Silver Anniversary Awards.
The Kennel Club's International Agility Festival has been short-listed in the prestigious 'Best Show' category by Agility Voice magazine. The annual show is one of three finalists in the category for the Agility Club Silver Anniversary Awards, with the winner being announced in February. In addition, the Kennel Club has also been nominated in the Contribution to Agility category.
Agility was first introduced at Crufts in 1978, and since then the Kennel Club has continued to promote this popular sport, licensing over 300 shows annually. The International Agility Festival began three years ago and with over 2,000 dogs taking part, the show has really taken off and proved itself a weekend not to be missed.
With over 12,000 entries and 16 competition rings to manage, the show requires significant levels of co-ordination and hard work. Competitors from all over the world make their way to the East of England Showground in Peterborough to attend the event in August each year.
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson said, 'This is a fantastic recognition of the achievements of the Kennel Club. So much work goes into the International Agility Festival and we are really pleased to be recognised for this. To be nominated for the festival is great, but to be recognised for our overall contribution to Agility as well just highlights how far the Kennel Club has come in promoting this sport.'
The winners will be announced at the Anniversary Gala and Awards Ceremony which takes place on 16th February at the Stoneleigh Exhibition and Conference Centre, Warwickshire. To find out more about getting into Agility have a look at the Activities & Events section of the Kennel Club website, www.thekennelclub.org.uk.

The British Trios Challenge for 2008
The
British Agility Association have announced a brand new Team Trios event for all sizes of dogs
that will run throughout the summer - The British Trios Challenge! It will consist of classes
for all heights of dogs - Large, Medium and Small - including:-
British Mini/Micro Trios Challenge
British Medium Trios Challenge
British Maxi Trios Challenge
Teams of three dogs of the same height, but at different levels of competition, will accumulate points in classes at British Trios Qualifier Shows. The points for each member of the team will be combined and the top 10 teams in each height category will be invited to compete in a British Trios Challenge Final for each height of dog at the BAA Grand Prix Finals on 23-25 August 2008.
How will it work?
Each Team will consist of 1 Introductory, 1 Primary and 1 Novice Plus dog. For example, to enter a team for the British Medium Trio's Challenge, the team must comprise 1 Introductory Medium, 1 Primary Medium and 1 Novice Plus Medium dog.
During the season there will be a number of BAA nominated qualifying shows at different venues. Look out for British Trios Qualifier on the schedules!
Individual members of the team will earn points for their team dependent on their individual performances in the classes they compete in at the qualifying shows. All points-scoring classes count except for Junior and Veteran events.
For the purposes of this challenge, the highest placed Maxi, Medium and Mini/Micro in each class at the qualifying shows will earn 10 points for their team, with the next highest earning 9 points and so on. All dogs will earn 1 point for a clear round outside the top 10 of their height.
It is not a requirement that all 3 team members are competing at a qualifying show for individual members to earn points for their team.
Teams must register before they can earn any team points – points cannot be gained retrospectively.
A team only needs to register once during the season.
No dog can be a member of more than 1 team.
The Finals
The top 10 Trios from each height category will qualify for the Finals. In the absence of a team member not attending the Finals a substitute may be nominated, but two of the qualifying team must be in the competing team and the substitute must be competing at the same level as the absent member and must not be part of another team that has qualified for the Finals.
The Final will take the form of a Trios Jumping Relay and the winners will receive the title British Team of the Year for their height.
To
register a team for The British Trios Challenge, please visit the BAA Webpage
http://www.baa.uk.net/BTC.html and send the
completed form to the address shown.
Good luck to everyone entering!

Be sure to include an SAE for return of your camping pass. Camping is £15 for the week-end, and is subject to availability.
If you have not been involved in organising a show you may not appreciate the cost of hosting such an event. Rather than disappoint everyone who had entered NDTS have taken the decision to re-schedule the show, even though it means incurring significant further costs: let alone the time and commitment of the members. Consequently, we regret that we cannot make and refunds of entry fees to those of you unable to attend the re-scheduled show.

Spring at Shuttleworth Show to Go On
According to Show Manager Bernadette King on the Agility Addicts Forum, the Spring at Shuttleworth (BSDA OF GB) on 29-30 March is definitely going ahead as planned but at another part of the grounds. THe layout of the rings and trade stands will be different from last year. The organising party is on site already and they say that the camping area is decent under foot and that vehicles are not being allowed in the ring area - only humans and dogs!
'Would you believe,' said Bernadette from the venue, that I got a suntan setting up on Thursday!'
The weather forecast for the weekend is changeable - chilly with some showers but also some bright spells.
The organisers look forward to seeing everyone camping after 3.00pm on Friday or when you arrive on Saturday morning.

KC Festival Set to Break World Record
Records entries for the 4th Kennel Club International Agility Festival are set to make it the world’s biggest ever agility show. Competitors from three new countries - Poland, Sweden and France – have already signed up to take part in the Festival which will be held at the East of England showground in Peterborough from 8-10 August. Overall figures are expected to outstrip last year’s record of 2000 dogs competing.
Agility is the world’s fastest growing dog sport and up to 24 rings are planned for this year – four times the number at the inaugural show in 2005 – in preparation for the ever increasing number of competitors. The Festival is the only international show to be open to all Kennel Club registered dogs, whether pure-breed or cross-breed.
Competitions will range from the International Young Handler of the Year and the Kennel Club Starters Cup to the Kennel Club Novice Cup and the Kennel Club British Open, with opportunities to qualify for the agility competition at Crufts 2009.
Agility competitors are reminded that the deadline for entry to the Festival, which is sponsored by pet food producer, Arden Grange, is 25 June 2008. Schedule can be downloaded from Agilitynet. For more information, contact debbie.deuchar@thekennelclub.org.uk

Easter at Shuttleworth Refunds
As the organisers of the Easter Agility Show held at Shuttleworth over the bank holiday, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all those who pulled out all the stops to enable the show to continue despite the appalling weather conditions.
They coped with the storms and gale force winds of Thursday night and Friday morning. They had to manage without lots of people who could not get there for various reasons to do with the weather, many of whom had offered to help or ring manage. The freezing winds were very trying for judges and helpers alike. The mud was akin to the Somme. All in all, it was very unpleasant for the whole day.
As Show Manager, Ian Stowers felt that the conditions could improve for the following day, Sunday, provided that the weather was good overnight. The morning looked good at 6.00am. The decision was made to hold the show at 6.00am on Sunday as the night had been clear. The winds had dropped and it was sunny. The walkways between rings had become very muddy during Saturday, so as suggested by concerned competitors, 4 rings were marked out on fresh ground. Having marked out the ring corners, everything was set for another day of competition until between 6.15-6.30am when the snow started to fall. Despite this, everyone - competitors, judges and organisers alike - helped to move four courses to new locations. This all took place with lots of snow falling.
At a briefing held at 8.30am in the marquee, it was clear that the show could not go ahead at that time but a final decision would be made at 10.00am. At that time the conditions had not improved sufficiently so the show was cancelled.
It was clear by mid afternoon that the Monday show could not go ahead as the ground was water logged. Many people camping were leaving the show including some of the helpers. The weather forecast said that more bad weather was on the way. Many people had arrived on Sunday expecting to compete but were not able to. The organisers did not want that to happen again.
Much of Sunday afternoon was spent towing people off site and also most of Monday doing the same.
Grateful thanks go to those who unselfishly did more than should be expected for the show to continue, especially Yvette Pettican and Angela Gadenne who were there from the start. They were doing the camping booking in job, to the finish, giving their full support at all times, even at 6am on Sunday morning in the snow.
The organisers now have to wait for the Shuttleworth invoice to arrive to do the final figures and then do the calculations regarding refunds. They would appreciate your consideration and patience during this process which is not something they've done ever before.

Norfolk Easter Show 2008 Update
Sue Batley has managed to contact the Kennel Club and has applied for the re-scheduled dates 19-20th April.
She said, 'We know its the same weekend as Wallingford, but unfortunately once the season starts we are going to clash with somebody. In this region it's the only weekend when there is not an agility show in April. It's also the only weekend we can use the ground, 8 out of our 10 judges are free, equipment etc is available, and club members and local clubs will be available to help us before they all go off to shows elsewhere. We would love to be able to please everybody, but The KC will take a few days to confirm the licence. Hopefully we will have more to report by end of next week!

Laser Pairs Changes
Due to the bad weather at Easter, the Laser Knockout Pairs heat at Dashin Dogs Easter Show could not be held. As it is too late to re-schedule this heat at another show and in order to maintain the number of competitors at the final, the first eight pairs from the Wallingford Show heat will now qualify for the final in August 2008.

Update on the Norfolk Easter Show 2008
The Norfolk Easter Show Committee and club are aiming to re-schedule their show which was cancelled for safety reasons for the 19-20 April. Dashin's Dogs Over Easter Cancelled for Safety Reasons
All four days of Dashin’ Dogs were cancelled due to high winds and dangerous conditions.
Sue and Charlie Wyatt sent in their personal account of what happened, 'We arrived there early afternoon Thursday. It was very cold and blustery and it took four of us to put two awning up through the very windy conditions but we managed it in the end. That night the wind got even worse increasing to force gales/rain. The caravan was being constantly knocked about. We were constantly checking out of our windows to make sure that our fencing was coping with the awful conditions. We eventually noticed around 2.30am that our fence had blown down so we dressed and quickly tried to hold it together. We saw that quite a few other awnings had blown off the caravans, The wind had managed to overturn the main Secretary's marquee which was wrapped around someone's caravan plus the sound system trailer was toppled. These were very scary conditions.'
'It was the longest/awful night I can every remember in my agility career of 15 or so years. Many people helped to rescue the Marquee while others tried to save their battered belongings. So glad Easter will not come this early for another 200 years but thankfully I won't be around when that does happen again.'
'We travelled home safely Friday and we are thankful to be in a safe nice warm house where the dogs are now happy and safe out of the terrible conditions we were in for that 24 hours.'

Attention.
This could be your last chance to help raise money to send the UKA GB Team going to the 2008
IFCS World Championships in Belgium. The squad are selling quiz tickets and there are
only a limited amount of tickets left for the fund raising draw, taking place on the 4 May at
the GT Agility show. Tickets cost £25.00 and there are only 200 which gives you a good chance
to win one of the great prizes.
Why not get a group of friends together or ask your club to buy one - or even two tickets and have a chance to win a complete set of First Contact Agility Equipment, a training day with a member of the team or £100 of vouchers from Doggie Solutions.
To reserve your ticket, email Chris@doggiesolutions.co.uk with the answer to the quiz question 'In which country are the IFCS 2008 World Championships being held in 2008?' Doh!

The first show ever being held under the Irish Agility & Dog Sports Association (IADSA) rules will be held on 10 May 2008 at the WCAOI training grounds, Garryhill, Co. Carlow. All class wins will count towards progression.
Show Secretary Nuala O'Brien admitted, 'I am aware that our show clashes with Ballymena. However, there will be a couple more shows during the year run under IADSA rules.'
Please note that competitors must be registered with IADSA to compete at these shows. The show schedule, entry form and waiver are now available on Agilitynet.

To clarify the information which appeared recently on another Forum, the Agility Nuts show in August has not been cancelled. Whilst the show will no longer be a BAA show, it is still going ahead as an Independent show. It has also had to be rescheduled for the weekend of 16-17 August.
New schedules and entry forms will be released shortly. Anyone who entered the original show will have their entries returned and will need to re-enter if they wish to come to the rescheduled show.

European Champ Squad Announced
The teams for the 2008 European Open Agility Championships have been announced, following the Kennel Club-organised squad selection day held on Saturday, 12 April 2008 in Daventry. The Kennel Club offers its sincere thanks to Kath Dark who hosted the event, welcoming over 100 competitors and dogs to her farm. Undeterred by high winds and hailstorms, competitors had travelled from all corners of the United Kingdom to compete for the privilege of representing Great Britain at the forthcoming Championships in Germany in July.
This is the first time that a team has been chosen at a special selection day, such is the level of interest and high level of skill in Agility in Britain. All competitors had their Pet Passports checked by the team vet, Kobus Englebrecht, and were officially measured prior to competition to ensure that they were fully eligible to compete in Germany prior to selection. The dogs were then run over three testing courses, set by judge Andy Hudson, and points were gained relating to the dogs' placings in each round. The team manager, John Gilbert, then took the dogs with the most accumulated points into the final round.
Thirty large dogs, 12 Medium dogs and 11 Small dogs contested the final round to select the squad that will travel to Germany. John Gilbert, European Open Team Manager said, 'The European Selection Day was a huge success, with a terrific four round competition. Our judge, Andy Hudson, produced four excellent courses which tested the very best. I am delighted to see two juniors make it into the team, and am very confident that Team GB will do us proud in Germany.'
The teams are as follows (subject to change due to injury, illness etc):-
Large Dog Teams
Medium Team
Medium Dog - Individuals
Small Team
Small Dog - Individuals
All 30 squad members will run in the Individual Championships. The team manager has decided to enter four Large teams, 1 Medium team and 1 Small team. In releasing the details of the make up of each team in advance, the team manager wishes to encourage a bond and team spirit amongst those selected which can be grown over the next three months, including the possibility of each team getting together for practice and tactics. Each team can also discuss their preferred running order (subject to the team manager's final approval).
The Kennel Club would like to congratulate all the dogs and handlers selected to compete at the European Open Championships and, with the rest of the Agility community, wishes them every success in Germany in July.

There has been recent heavy rain leading to very wet, soft conditions at Overstenton Park, Glenrothes, putting the staging of the Kingdom of Fife and Scottish Border Collie Club show this forthcoming weekend in jeopardy. In view of this, and in an effort to keep the shows from being cancelled, the Show Committees of these two lcubs asking competitors who have booked camping to consider an alternative site to camp at the weekend. Any caravans which do arrive may very well need to be towed on and off the venue, if conditions do not improve.
Competitors who have booked camping will get a full refund if they do not camp at the venue. The show organisers would ask all competitors who stay within a reasonable distance to the venue to consider travelling.
A further inspection will be carried out on Thursday evening, after which they will be in a position to decide if caravans, other than those for judges and scribes, will be allowed on at all.

Burnham & District DTC are pleased to announce a new venue for this year's agility show. Sadly, they have outgrown the field behind the Huntsman and Hounds. However they have been very lucky to secure a new venue at London Hayes Farm, Cold Norton Road, Latchingdon CM3 6LQ, where there should be plenty of room for everyone.
For sat nav devices, use CM3 6HP. This should take you to close to the entrance to the farm's road. The venue will be signposted.

There
was an 'ooops' on the running orders for the Laser K/O pairs for Wallingford Show next weekend.
The note that accompanied the running orders indicated that the Prelims started at 68. The
Secretary's paperwork reflected this, but everyone's running orders were printed with the
Prelims starting at 1.
The easiest way out is to keep your running orders correct and change the paperwork, so - please ignore the notes that accompanied your running orders relating to the K/O pairs. The Prelims start at 1. Please pass on to one and all.
This is a good opportunity to remind everyone - especially anyone who has not run in this class before - that you must run exactly in your running order. This event zips through very very quickly so keep a close eye on this class. Please be ringside well before you are due to run.

Easter seems an age ago now and many will have given up on any news of any refunds from the cancellation of the Easter Show held at Old warden Park back in March, but we have been on the case for all that time. Everybody loses when a show is cancelled and to cancel a show is the very hardest decision to make.
Some invoices are received and paid immediately, but some go through a lengthy process and take longer to arrive as in the case of the Shuttleworth invoice. Obviously refunds are not able to be paid until all costs have been invoiced.
As anyone who runs agility shows will tell you, all the costs are allocated and committed before the show happens and consequently when a show is cancelled the die has been cast. We were fortunate that we managed to get partial refunds on some of our costs which we would like to thank those companies for, because without those reductions there would have been very little left to share around equally. We do negotiate with our suppliers to get the best deal possible and if we can do a 'cash deal,' we do and save the VAT, if that is an option.
The refund amount will obviously be different dependent on classes entered and camping. The percentage money left is 12.5% of the overall income and, therefore. we are refunding to each person 12.5% of their original payment. This equates to £0.33p refund per class entry and £1.06p per camping night.
To make the refund process manageable those who posted entries, please send and SAE to:-
Easter Show Refund
c/o Janet Humphreys
Twenty pence Marina
Twenty Pence Road
Wilburton
Ely
Cambs CB6 3PX
For those who entered via iSS, the refunds will be paid back into your account automatically, so no need to apply.
As you see, the show just about runs without making a loss and the costs incurred are all direct invoiced costs or materials.
If you wish to have a more detailed knowledge of the costs you are more than welcome to call either Ian Stowers on mobile: 07802 359 815 or Janet Humphreys on tel. 01954 251118.

The
Lincoln Agility Enthusiasts Open Agility Show on 27-28 September will truly be Agility for All.
It has been decided that, after expenses, all proceeds will be going to various dog and
children’s charities.
All dogs and handlers will be treated equally with everyone having grade or graded classes as well as a couple of Allsorts classes. There will be no Combined classes. As Kennel Club rules allow points for progression up to tenth place, trophies will be given up to 3rd place in every class with Certificates up to 10th place for the smaller classes. Rosettes will be presented up to 10% of the entry.
The show organisers are hoping for more volunteers to help run the event. If any clubs or groups can organise a ring party or any individuals can help, they will be well looked after as usual. As the event running order will be sent out two weeks before the show, it should be possible to decide if you will have time to help in either the morning or afternoon. If you feel you can help please contact Dave Roberts or Red Dog Processing by post, phone or email.
Closing date is 18 August.
The Lincoln Show is being guaranteed by Nottingham DTC.

Regrettably
Golden Valley Show information and ring cards are unlikely to be posted until Monday, 9 June
2008.
To help the organisers set up and to accommodate the increased booked camping requirements, it would be helpful if competitors would indicate a preference of pitch site. For those who know the site, three choices are being offered:-

Farm Field
Camping Field
Send an email to gvcamping2008@hotmail.co.uk or ring/text Angie Shears - not on Monday, please - on mobile: 07723 065523 to indicate your first choice, stating the name you put on the booking in. The organisers promise to do their best to accommodate you. Please book by 7.00pm Wednesday, 11 June 2008.

The
Summer Agility Show, licensed by Ely & District DTC in association with Orchard Agility, has
moved to a new venue with better facilities. The show will be held over August Bank Holiday
Weekend (22-25 August) at the Littleport Sports & Fitness Centre, Ely (Cambs.) Camping will be
limited to 350 units.
This venue was chosen because it has better toilets and showers - enough to cater for four football teams at the same time plus enough standalones to be near to everybody. There is a very good restaurant in the club house and an excellent bar which will be open for most of the time. There will be a very good new outdoor caterer who is also very reasonable on his prices.
The flat ground which is regularly mown and maintained and there is enough room for a practice ring if time and the manpower is available, Practice ring if time and manpower is available.
The organisers have added more classes including ABC and Old timers’ classes plus some Grade 6 and 7 classes this year. The Arden Grange Starter Dog of the Year Final will be run there.
The schedule can be downloaded from Agilitynet.

Classes will run in numerical order in each ring. Please note that the YKC Team Agility is the first class in Ring 2.

The Kennel Club has again decided to sponsor a UK team to take part in the European Open Agility Championships to take place in 2009. The squad selection process is about to start and all agility competitors are invited to try out for qualification for the European Open Squad Selection Day.
Existing 2008 Agility Shows holding a Combined G6 and 7 Agility Class - or those who wish to put on such a class - will be invited to designate the class as an E.O. Ranking Event. Competitors will enter these classes as normal, but gain points for the top ten places in the same way as the Crufts Singles are calculated at present. i.e. 10 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 10th place. The top ten places will count regardless of whether rosettes are awarded to 10th place.
These ranking events will be for all heights of dogs, but not necessarily at the same show, and are open to all dogs, non pedigree and pedigree that are eligible for Grade 6 or 7. This system of selection will be for England only. Therefore only English handlers in the top ten will score points based on their position at each ranking event. The other Home Nations Team Captains will put suggestions forward for their own countries.
The number of E.O. Ranking Events is ideally 15 for Large, 10 for Medium and 10 for Small, providing they are spread across England in such a way as to reflect the number of handlers in particular areas. Note: at the time two more shows are required to host an E.O. Ranking Event for Large dogs. Those interested should contact the European Open Team Manager, John Gilbert. The Combined G6 and 7 Agility Class, used as a European Open Ranking Event, can be a class that is already a qualifier, e.g. Crufts Singles, Olympia, or any other sponsored event.
A points league table will be updated regularly and sent to all relevant media outlets.
When the ranking events have finished the top 30 Large, 10 Medium and 10 Small dogs (subject to change) will then be invited to the 2009 Selection Day. Reserves will be taken in order from the final list.
The list of shows holding E.O. Ranking Events is listed below. Results of each E.O. Ranking Event class will be sent to the European Open Team Manager within two weeks of the show.

has responded to requests from a number of agility competitors asking for a ruling on whether
individuals are permitted to enter the FCI Agility World Championships in Finland this year.
There is no provision within the FCI competition for individuals to enter the event without the support of their national kennel club. The Kennel Club has agreed to send a team, on the proviso that competitors meet the expense of travelling and entering themselves. In order to select a team of up to nine dogs and handlers, a qualifying competition for those interested in competing at the FCI World Championships will take place on Monday, 28 July 2008 near Rugby.
The 2008 FCI World Agility Championships are being hosted by the Finnish Kennel Club. They will be held at the Helsinki Ice Hall on 26-28 September 2008. The three-day competition will be attended by participants from about 40 countries.
The rules of the qualifying event and the schedule are available from Debbie Deuchar at the Kennel Club via debbie.deuchar@thekennelclub.org.uk or 0870 6066750 ext 211.

awarded accordingly:-

We appreciate the support shown to us thus far, and are very happy to see so many new faces at shows especially last weekend. The
Agility Team GB Supporters Club will be launched at the KC Festival on Saturday evening at the
close of competition. All overseas visitors, Agility Team GB competitors, grooms and supporters
from 2008 and prospective members are invited to the party.
Every year The Kennel Club agrees an annual budget to support International Agility. Until 2008, a team has been sent to the FCI World Championships, but this year it was decided that we should send a team to the European Open Event instead as it is open to all dogs regardless of pedigree. It is expected that the budget will fully fund this venture. Any surplus funds will be used to support a team at the FCI World Agility Event.
It is unlikely that there will be enough funds in the budget to fully support both events and so a small group of people including Kate Howard, Marie Douglas and Jill Spurr were asked to start up an Agility Team GB Supporters Club to fundraise and make up any shortfall. This year, competitors wanting to go to Helsinki are self-funding their travel and accommodation, but this inevitably restricts the entry to those who can afford it.
Membership is £10 per annum with various concessionary rates shown below. You get a badge, quarterly newsletter, chance to run in the national heats and qualify for the final. Top training, members only days will be available.
The Rates
| Concession e-mail (2 members at same address, or Under 18 or Over 60 years) | £7.00 |
| Special offer for existing supporter/competitor 2008 | £5.00 |
Cheques payable to: Agility Team GB Supporters Club. Renewal fee due at Jan 1st each year. Any memberships unpaid by 1st February each year will consider to be lapsed.
Fundraising
There have already had several pay on the day events and have raised £500 so far.
Another fund raising activity is a Pledge raffle. This will run until early September and consists of pledges of items which have been generously donated. Many are items that 'money cannot buy' or, at least, would be very expensive. Please make a pledge to help boost the fund if you are able to. Everyone else should stop the fundraising Team and buy a strip of tickets at only £1. Alison Martin has offered to vacuum at six caravans at Dogs in Need to the highest bidders! She also offered to do it in a tabard. Bids to the fundraising team, please.
In addition, it would be nice to be able to also support other events or individuals as funds allow e.g. International Junior Events etc. This means a lot of effort on the part of the fund-raisers but you can all help by giving time or money to support the cause. The fund-raisers will be at an event near you – soon!
To apply for membership and send your details with a cheque to: Kate Howard, 90 Portreath Drive, Allestree, Derby. DE22 2SD. England. If you have any questions or ideas for fundraising etc. email kateh90@aol.com or ring tel. 01332 551486

Good news for
last-minute handlers - Trent Park DAC has extended the closing date for its Open Agility Show
on 31 August by a week, with Kennel Club permission. The new closing date is Monday 21 July
2008 (first class postmark). ISS will
continue to accept online entries for the show up to midnight on 21 July.
'Trent Park show is a chance to recover from the BIG week-long shows and 18-ring Festivals during August,' says Show Secretary John Leslie. 'Just a nice, local one-day show with classes for all sizes and all Grades - plus a dash of excitement with the Laser Pairs Knockout for large dogs and, of course, the Eukanuba Crufts qualifiers with the Mini Agility Challenge, the Mini-Mixi Pairs and the Eukanuba Mini Circular Knockout.'
'By the way, although the show on Sunday 31 August is a couple of days earlier this year because of when the weekends fall, the show isn't on the Bank Holiday weekend. Bank Holiday Monday is on 25th August, the previous weekend, so you don't have to give up your trip to the seaside!'
The show's new venue, Stockwood Park in Luton, is just a couple of minutes from the M1 and has been home to many shows in the past including BATS.

The organisers are a little concerned that the response to the popular Dorset Charity Horse & Dog Show has been a bit lower this year than last so they have extended the closing date for entries from 4 July to 10 July.
2007 was very successful and raised over £3000, split between Julia's House Children's hospice and Wessex Cancer Research. With a year under their belts, the organisers have planned an even more ambitious programme this year - doubling the amount of dog classes with novelty, fun pedigree, fun obedience, doggy dash, temptation alley, have-a-go flyball, scurry and gundog challenge being just a few of the events taking place on the action-packed day - as well as a comprehensive programme of agility.
Although there are plenty of events for horse and dog owners to take part in, there are also plenty of events and displays to entertain the whole family. New to the show this year is a main ring with lots to entertain the whole family including an inter pub tug-of-war, baton twirlers, Iberian horse display, miniature horse jumping, falconry display, Husky racing and Police dog display. There are also plenty of trade stands, a beer tent and a charity auction with lots of generous 'prizes' from local businesses.
The day starts at 9am and is only £1 each entry - which, of course, goes to charity. Events are taking place throughout the day until 6pm. Further details can be found on www.dorsetcharityhorseshow.m20.co.uk

Whilst
entries for the Agility Nuts Show on 16-17 August are progressing well, it has been brought to
Agilitynet's attention recently that not everybody who entered the show on its original dates
(2-3 August) has realised that their original entry is null and void. If you want to come along
and join in the fun, you'll need to re-enter the show.
A confirmatory email has been sent to all those from whom I have received an entry so far. If you are in any doubt as to whether or not you have entered the show, please email Paul Sensky. If you know of anyone who might have entered who does not read the Internet, please can you pass this message on.
There are still several camping pitches available. Closing date is 21 July (postmark)
Source: Paul Sensky (04/07/08)
Clarification: All 11 entrants to the original show had their entries and cheques returned with a note enclosed, making it quite clear that 2-3 August show no longer existed and that future Agility Nuts shows were not BAA sanctioned shows. A couple requested on-line running orders but they were also fully informed of the situation. June Bass

Entries
for the Redgates Independent Limited Show to be held on Saturday, 6t September are coming in at
a steady pace. However, to reduce the number of phone calls to the Show Secretary, Tim
Griffiths has confirmed that the Limits have not yet been reached and there are still plenty of
places left in all rings / classes.
Anyone who has entered the show already can confirm that their entry has been received by visiting the Redgates website where the organisers have uploaded a spreadsheet showing the entries received so far. This also gives a running total of the number of dogs currently entered in each ring / class. This spreadsheet will be updated weekly.

Trent Park's Open
Agility Show on Sunday 31 August is all set at its new venue this year in Stockwood Park,
Farley Road, Luton (LU1 5EH). We've been lucky enough to get the 'bowling green' area in the
park - also known as the Gaelic Football area - and as well as catering from Shaylers,
photography from Starshotz/Studio FX, Waggitt's who
will be at the show embroidering collars and leads on the spot and
other trade stands, there will be official agility measurers
available.
As usual, sorry, we don't have the space to be able to accept caravans. RVs, however, are okay. The show opens 7:30am for start of judging at 8:30. Please be aware of the extensive 50mph speed restrictions on the M1 due to long-term roadworks and allow a little extra time if necessary! Once you get to the Luton exit (Junction 10) it's only just over a mile, under 10 minutes, to Stockwood Park.
See you there!

Wiccaweys have decided to add an extra agility class to their show on Saturday, 6 September. It will be called class 13 Grade 1 - 7 S, M, L. If you have already entered the show and wish to enter this class with dogs you have entered in other classes - or if you have a Grade 5 or above dog - then you can enter your dog in this class, too.
It would be good if you could let show secretary Pauline Barr know if you wish to enter this class. You can either send on a cheque or pay on the day. Entries will still be received up to Tuesday next week, 26 August.

There
is a major issue with the venue for the SKC Agility show this weekend. Due to the combination
of the 'fantastic' summer we are having and the fact that the showground was used for TruckFest
at the start of August, the main ring at the show ground is not usable as an agility ring. It
would be unsafe to run dogs in it.
Simon Green has spent most of yesterday morning at the showgrounds, trying to identify alternate sites for the show and is now in discussion with Ingliston to try and move the venue. We will try to keep everyone posted with any changes that occur as soon as possible.
P.S. The breed show will be unaffected as only the main ring was used for the 'truck parade.'

C-Side is no longer accepting entries for their November show in the C-Side Crystal Challenge. Show organiser Val Clark stressed that there will be no waiting list this year and that they will not be able to do last minute refunds if you have to pull out. Show processing has started and prizes are now being arranged according to the numbers entered. Please do not send an entry in the hope it will be accepted because it will be returned.
The January schedule has been uploaded to a newly created blog. The website that hosted the C-Side information is being closed down.
Val said, 'I think blogging is now the way to go. I will upload the on-line form soon as the November show has closed. The March schedule is being finalised now. I apologise for not naming a full list of judges yet, but they will be posted when I have them. I am still waiting on confirmation.'

After making it through a tough qualifying series, a 30-strong team of dogs and handlers represented Great Britain and the Kennel Club for the first time at the European Open Championships for Dog Agility in Gelsenkirchen (Germany). The Team was pitched against 650 dogs from 30 other European countries in a bid to take the coveted European Agility Championship title.
Overall the young British team achieved a number of good results in a variety of different categories. Leah Gardner and Herbie, a Working Sheepdog, gained a silver medal in the Individual Championships for Large dogs, whilst Bernadette Bay with her Shetland Sheepdog and Hex picked up a bronze medal in the Individual Championships for Small dogs. Marc Saunders and Dash, a Working Sheepdog, also came a creditable 6th in the final for Large dogs.
There was further Bronze medal success in the Large Team Championships, with a very young team made up of Anthony Clarke (16) with Magic, a Collie/Belgian Shepherd X, Lee Gibson (23) with Jack, a Border Collie, Katie Mitchell (18) with Rocky, a Border Collie, and Marc Saunders (24) with Dash, a Working Sheepdog.
To add to the roll of honour, Andy Sandercock won the Individual Medium Jumping round with Ten, his Border Collie, whilst Nigel Staines and Zico, an Australian Kelpie, came 4th in the Individual Large Agility round.
This was the first time that the Kennel Club has sponsored a team to enter the prestigious competition. Caroline Kisko, spokesperson for the Kennel Club, said: 'We are very proud of the team’s results at the European Open Championships for agility. The team achieved great success and we were happy that the dogs were able to bring home some medals for Britain.'
