There will be four days of competition for all sizes and grades of dogs with Team, Pairs and individual classes. Looking at the entry already received, there are numerous dogs from Poland, Russia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belgium, Sweden, Lithuania, Estonia, Netherlands and Hungary. After announcing that there would be no Tweedbank show this year, many club members and other people have phoned Isla Martin to say that they are not happy with that decision. So in a last ditch effort to save the show, the club is having a meeting on Thursday, 22 January to see if there is any chance whatsoever that they could hold a show!
Bernie Ferguson said, 'If there is any change, we will let people know asap. Sorry for any inconvenience.'

Having
heard rumours to the contrary, Watford AC has today announced that its 2009 show is definitely
on and will take place at the usual venue in Luton on Saturday, 27 June 2009.
The show will follow a different format from previous years while a newly appointed show committee gets up to speed. As a consequence Watford won’t be holding any qualifiers this year, but can still promise a great one day show with runs for all grades and all heights.
The schedule should be available shortly and will be published on the usual internet sites.

Alpha Feeds recognises the importance of innovation and have developed a range that is good value, ultra-consistent and that really do help dogs perform.'

After
a very tough decision, Philip Patterson has decided to give someone else the opportunity of
organising the future Clyde Valley shows. The June show will now be organised by Kenny
Spottiswoode and Mandy Glendinning. The only change to the June show (for this year) is that it
will only be a two day show instead of the usual three days.
Kenny said, 'Many people have been asking us if there will be Small and Medium classes at the show and the answer is YES. The Smalls and Mediums will have an same amount of runs as the Large dogs although we haven't decided on the grading of the classes yet.'
Kenny and Mandy, however, will not be organising the August Clyde Valley show. This will be run by Richard Dowsland. At the moment there is no news of Smalls and Mediums.
If you would like to know more about the Clyde Valley, then don't hesitate to contact Kenny on email: contact@kennyspottiswoode.co.uk.

The
Midland Counties Canine Sports show which was originally planned to take place on 6th & 7th
June is now scheduled for 13th & 14th June 2009. The reason for this change is to avoid a clash
with North Derbyshire show.

The Donyatt Limit on 22 February is
now full.
Kernow K9
Camping at the Easter Show is now full, judges and ring managers excepted.
Dog Vegas
The Dog Vegas show on 7 February is now closed. This is also final reminder that the
January show is on the 24th and not the 17th as previously announced. There are some places
left at the 7 March show.
C-Side Crystal Challenge
As the 7 March date clashes with Crufts, it is taking longer to fill so there are about 100
runs still available. Because organiser Val Clark needs to place her rosette order as
soon as possible for it to arrive in time, she has decided to put a closing date on this show
of Saturday, 24 January 2009.

The
organisers of All About Dogs show are extremely sad and disappointed to announce that the event
will no longer be staged.
Although the 2009 event had been planned to go ahead at the Brentwood Centre showground, after a series of meetings with the local borough council it has been decided that it will no longer be viable, due to changes in Council policies of competitive tendering for events staged in Brentwood.
The All About Dogs show has always been about promoting dog ownership in the very best light, and was organised by 'doggie people for doggie people.' All About Dogs was the largest and most comprehensive outdoor dog event of its kind – it was the blue print for others to follow.
The organisers feel that should they become involved in competitive tendering for the event, changes in the format of the show would have to be implemented and costs for all concerned would rise dramatically. The event has always been staged with dogs in mind and not profit margins. Other venues, both within Brentwood and outside the Borough have been viewed and considered, but the financial implications of moving the event elsewhere were quite prohibitive and would not be viable in the current financial climate.
The organisers would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks all the agility people who have supported the event over the past ten years.

iSS have set up a Show Hotline number which is available for free to everyone. Add this number 07532 11 11 57 to your mobile contacts list.
Kate Austin said, 'Because of the number of show cancellations that have happened recently, we have set up this service as an aid to everyone. It’s a non-profit making service, and we hope it will be the only number you’ll ever need!'
Show Secretaries: The Hotline is available to all shows - free of charge -to post urgent show information. Simply email your message to hotline@ishowservices.com or text your message to the hotline number and it will be recorded as an announcement which all competitors can access via the Hotline number, at standard mobile rates.
Val
Clark has told Agilitynet that they have now reached the capped number for the C-Side Challenge
January show at Golden Cross. Entries are now closed for this show. However, there are
still runs left for the March show.FEBRUARY 2009
The Patch in County Down is holding an agility Fun Day to support the Irish Team at the European Agility Championships in Holland this July. The proceeds will go towards the three girls - Joanne hughes, Andrea Gilpin and Kirsty Jess.
As this competition does not start until 12.00 noon, you can have a lie in, or do some extra training! Any donations for ballot prizes and any willing helpers would be greatly appreciated.
Please pass this on to any other agility people that may be interested.
Thanks to Ronnie McAleese for letting the club use the ground and equipment and to the two judges, David Duncan and Mervyn Flemming.

The WBSDS are pleased to announce that they are jointly holding a 2-day Open Agility Show in conjunction with Oswestry Agility. The show will be held at Oswestry Showground where camping is available.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the survey. It has been an interesting fact finding mission, but it would seem that there was not enough support coming from ABC folk to carry this idea forwards. The results of the second survey were much the same as the first. It was a surprising outcome as it was thought there would be a lot more support for promoting the ABC especially from the people who run them and especially as the collie/WSD dominates the sport throughout every grade.
It was thought that the idea would have been a welcome addition to the world of agility, opening up the competition element to a wider range of dog breeds including crosses and rescues but, without the support and without enough people in favour of a graded ABC system, it would have be a waste of time proceeding to a formal KC proposal.
Although there were a good number of people who supported the idea, in fact, there were votes in favour within both surveys, but sadly not by a big enough margin. It would need tremendous support from within the agility community as a whole for the KC to even consider a change. Added to this, the agility clubs themselves would need to have the will to organise and put on the classes at already busy shows.
Having looked at all of the results and opinions from both surveys, the idea has now been dropped and the matter closed. Thanks again for all who took part. Good luck and have fun with your ABC!

Woodside DTC
has asked Agilitynet to point out the following about their Championship & Open Agility Tests
on 2-3 May 2009:-
Joan Hart explained about the change to the way camping is being allocated, saying 'We are doing a 'draw' on those who wish to camp. The draw will take place before show closing date. Camping has own closing date in effect.
'Anyone not getting camping can then decided whether to send entries for show or not. If they sent both at the same time, they can indicate if they wish to enter only if they gain a camping space. The camping form should NOT to go to Showtime as they are dealing with entries only. Camping forms -with camping fees - should be sent to to June McKinnon, 1 Park Avenue, Carstairs Junction, Lanarkshire ML11 8PW.'

The annual
Gun Dog Unaffiliated Agility Competition has been re scheduled for Sunday, 22 March 2009 at
Kingswood Equestrian Centre, near Albrighton, Staffordshire WV7 3AH
Karen Outten and Aljeana Baddley issued a statement saying, 'We understand that this date may not be suitable for all, but re-scheduling the show is a better option for all competitors than total cancellation. The re-scheduling of the show will also provide better value for money than a show cancellation refund for competitors.'
'We realise how disappointing it is going to be for people unable to attend as this is our one and only annual event and a means of getting together all those lovely gun dogs, see who has won the various Gun Dog League awards. But never mind the show must go on and we need to make the best of it that we can.'
'We have detailed in this notice how we plan to manage the situation of competitors being unable to attend the re scheduled date due to prior commitments. We are unable to offer refunds and run the show but we are hoping to provide a system where we may be able to sell on unwanted entries to prospective competitors who would like to enter the re schedule show.'
How it
will effect you
All your original entries will stand. The show
is not being re-opened as it has reached its limit. Spaces may become available. See below.
Running orders will not be re-issued so please hold onto them. If the ring plans change, for
example due to change of judge/ judges, a new ring plan will be issued. If you are attending
the show, you need to do nothing but look forward to the new date.
How it will effect
you if you can no longer attend
Your original entry for the 7 February show is
non-transferable by yourself. The organisers are not offering refunds due to running the show.
If you would like them to try and sell your entry/entries, then you need to do the following:-
Important note: Please do not pass on your entry to a third party. This will cause havoc at the show as all paper work is complete and any amendments will made prior to the show date.
Do you know someone
who would like to enter the show ?
Though the show has reached its limit, the organisers are
prepared to start a waiting list to assist competitors whom are now no longer able to attend
who have requested that their entry/entries be re-allocated. There is no guarantee that you
will get an entry to the show but, if you would like to go onto a waiting list, they will try
and allocate you an entry should any become available.
If you would like to go onto the waiting list you need to:-
Please note: Due to the situation of trying to provide a system of re-allocating entries, entries will beaccepted from Gun Dogs or non Gun Dogs (abg).
Finally Aljeana Baddley said, 'We hope that we have covered most questions that have been raised already to Karen and myself but, if there are any further questions that you need answered, please contact either Karen or me on aljeanabaddley@yahoo.co.uk . We hope that as many of you as possible are still able to attend and look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, 22 March 2009.

I'm sure many people would be disappointed if this show does not go ahead, so I'm asking for your support. As a few of us have phoned the SKC 'and have been told to put our concerns in writing, we would be obliged if you could voice your concerns and email your thoughts to myra@scottishkennelclub.org. Come on, folks. Please help save our show!'

The Kennel Club has announced that it will again be sponsoring a UK team in 2009 to take part in the European Open Agility Championships in the Netherlands in July, and the FCI World Agility Championships in Austria in September. Graham Partridge will take over the role of team manager for the European Open, while Steve Croxford will continue as team manager for the World Championships.
The European Open squad selection day has been arranged for Saturday, 18 April 2009 at Green Acres, Hellidon Road, Staverton, Daventry NN11 6JP and all competitors eligible to attend from England have been invited. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales are in the process of arranging which dogs they will be sending to the selection day. Judging will commence at 8.30am and anyone interested in supporting this event is welcome to attend.
English agility competitors wishing to qualify for the European Open (EO) in 2010 need to take part in EO Ranking Events to gain points. These classes will be Combined 6 and 7 Agility Classes and competitors will enter these classes as normal, but gain points for the top ten places. i.e. 10 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 10th place. The top ten places will count regardless of whether rosettes are awarded to 10th place.
These ranking events will be for all heights of dog - though all heights will not necessarily be scheduled at the same show - and are open to all dogs, pedigree and non-pedigree, which are eligible for Grade 6 or 7. This system of selection will be for those competitors resident in England only. Therefore only those resident in England will score points based on their top ten position at each ranking event. A points league table will be updated regularly and published on the Kennel Club website and sent to all relevant media outlets.
The Combined G6-7 Agility Class used as a European Open Ranking Event can be a class that is already a qualifier, e.g. Crufts Singles, Olympia, or any other sponsored event. When the ranking events have been completed, the top 30 Large, 10 Medium and 10 Small dogs (subject to change) will then be invited to the 2010 selection day. Reserves will be taken in order from the final list.
The shows holding EO Ranking Events are listed below. Results of each EO Ranking Event class will be sent to the Kennel Club within two weeks of the show.

The Kennel Club has recently released a new set of its popular regulations booklets for individual disciplines, which have proved essential for exhibitors, judges and show officials alike.
These booklets cover the six different regulations areas which are Agility and Flyball, Field Trials, Heelwork to Music, Obedience, Show and Working Trial regulations. The 2009 booklets are the most up-to-date set of regulations containing changes approved by the General Committee last year including those which became effective on 1st January 2009. A complete list of the changes was given in the December 2008 Kennel Gazette.
All six individual booklets are personal organiser sized and can be purchased online at the Kennel Club shop for £1.50 each.
Visit www.thekennelclub.org.uk to purchase the new regulation booklets online or call the Kennel Club Publications Department on tel. 020 7518 1001.

David
Luttman has
announced that with immediate effect,
he sadly will no longer be able to supply any shows with fire extinguishers to cover the
camping areas. This is mainly due to personal reasons which mean that he now will no longer
have the capacity to transport extinguishers to and from the various shows.
Dave said, 'I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the shows I have been able to supply and I will still be about on the agility circuit so I'm sure I'll catch up with you during the year. If anyone would like advice on who else would be able to supply the extinguishers then please feel free to contact me on either my mobile 07769 937179 or email me on david.luttman@chubb.co.uk

Show Secretary Jacky Hutchinson reports that they've had a great response for helpers on
Saturday of their show at Newbury Showground (18-19 April). No one wants to hang around on a
ring on Sunday afternoon when they could be on their way home, but they are pretty short of
help on Sunday.
Jacky said, 'Let me see if I can persuade a few good souls to help us: The ring sizes on Sunday are smaller than Saturday - only 2 over 400: 404 Grade 6-7 jumping & 405 Grades 3-5 Agility. Both should finish quickly. We expect to finish early on all rings. We have pole-pickers and we are hoping that they love the job so much they stay over from Saturday so we don't need quite as many on the rings. We'll pay £80 if a group of you - a club or just a group of mates - can run a ring for us. Or if you could share with another club we'll pay you each £40. You'll get parked / camped near the rings, fed & watered throughout the day. Please let me know if you can help out. We have put in an order for nice weather.'

Redgates Agility Club are currently looking for a couple of people to act as Reserve Judges for their show in August. This will be a small, relaxed, low key independent Show - but aligned to Kennel Club Rules - with three or possibly four rings maximum. The Redgates philosophy is that 'Agility Is Fun' and want their show to reflect this. Redgates need Reserve Judges in case one of their other Judges has to drop out - or they need to put on an extra ring etc. So whoever takes on the role must be willing to Judge Agility as well as Jumping Classes in addition to the slightly out of he ordinary Fun Classes.
Anyone who is interested should contact Tim Griffiths via email on Tim@RedgatesAgility.co.uk or by phone on mobile: 0788 934 4102. Redgates will be offering all the normal benefits including expenses, free camping, free runs for the persons own dogs + their partners dogs, and lunch etc.

the official waiting list by contacting Zoe Tharmasingam, either by email at

The Kennel Club has also prepared an accommodation list of alternative campsites, bed & breakfasts and hotels in the region of the showground. The list is in PDF format and can be downloaded here. Despite the extra camping spaces available following the move to the new venue at Kelmarsh Hall, camping has filled rapidly this year. Postal entries sent before camping closed will receive camping places; postal entries which will not receive a camping space will be contacted.

There is a new unaffiliated show happening in East Sussex for Sunday, 26 July. It is being run by the Mixed Ability Agility Dogs and Handlers (MAADH) group. Profits are going into an account to be able to provide a team to go to the international IMCA and PAWC competition 2010.
At present this competition is open to anyone in our country provided they were keen enough. They can nominate themselves to be a team member. They do not have to have a G7 pedigree dog or be top of the agility tables. Although we may not have the strongest team, the team would represent a real cross section of agility ability.

It seems that there could be some misunderstanding about the Weimaraner Association KC Agility Show on 6-7 June 2009.
'Show organiser Janet Hudson said, 'I’d just like to clarify that this is an Open Show for ALL breeds of dogs and not just Weimaraners. Entries will be accepted from all breeds of dogs – small, medium and large. The show is however, intended to be a celebration of ABC dogs and the majority of classes are 'special' ABC classes. Conversely, there is a class each day that collies/working sheepdogs and their crosses can enter, which officially makes it an 'Open Show.'
'We have a superb venue with plenty of room for camping, so get your entries in soon to take part in the ABC revelry! The closing date is 31st March.'

If
you missed out on camping at the Rugby DTC Championship show on 11-12 July, then Wendy Dugmore
and Myra Tubb might have a solution for you. They rent an agility practice field within 10
minutes drive of the venue for Rugby's Show. They have approached their landlord and Bob Lewis
of Rugby DTC and neither of them has any objections to them offering their field for overspill
camping.
There are a couple of provisos, though. There are no facilities in this field except a tap. Wendy proposed to hire an Elsan cube for toilet emptying but, to cover her costs, she must have firm commitments, i.e. the money, from 10 outfits. They have agreed a maximum of 30 units with the farmer. This will for caravans and motor homes only - no tents.
Wendy and her husband will be camping on the field, too. John will remain there for the whole weekend to keep an eye on things. The cost will be £15 per unit.
For more information or to book your place, email Wendy at john.dugmore@tiscali.co.uk

RVA Dog Training Society
(Cambs) have announced a new 3-day open KC agility show on 10--12 July 2009 at the
‘Just Dogs Live’ Show to be held at the East of England Showground, Peterborough.
Due to their successful relationship with the The East of England Agricultural Society, director Andrew Mercer has requested that RVA represents the agility element of this exciting new dog only show at the Showground, with full backing from the Kennel Club.
The Agility show will feature Graded Agility and Jumping for all heights and grades and will also include a new Agility Team Relay event. This is a special team relay event with two dogs completing an agility course and two dogs completing a jumping course. The agility section must include two pieces of agility equipment. Both the agility and jumping course will be in the same ring and consist of at least 16 items of equipment for each dog. Each team must consist of four dogs, with four handlers from the same height category. 2 dogs from each team must be Grade 4 or under at the time of entries closing for the qualifier class. A dog is only allowed to compete in one team at any one qualifier class and a team may only qualify once.
These qualifying competitions will be scheduled as a Combined class for Grades 1-7 (see grade rule above) for all height categories. There will be a separate qualifying competition for each height category. A team qualifier will be held on Friday and Saturday with the prize money final taking place on Sunday afternoon.
The top five Large, Medium and Small teams to qualify from each heat will be awarded a ‘Just Dogs Live’ Qualifier rosette and a certificate.
The qualifying teams in each qualifier will be invited to the Just Dogs Live Final 2009 at the East of England Showground Peterborough on 12 July 2009 to compete in the Small, Medium and Large Team Finals.
Prize money will be awarded to the top three placed finalist teams from each height category.
First place £120
Second place £80
Third place £40
No prize money will be awarded at qualifying heats.
No agility warrant points can be gained from this event as it is classed as a special class. This includes the final.
Camping will be limited. Schedules are available on the club website http://rvadts.co.uk/ and on Agilitynet www.agilitynet.com soon. Online entries will be available on http://www.lnshowservices.co.uk/
If your club would like to hold a qualifier for the 2010 final please contact Teresa Stretton via the RVA website or Ray Amps on rva@ntlworld.com RVA Dog Training Society (Cambs)

Cornwall and Dartmoor
Clubs would like to apologise for having to cancel our shows on Saturday and Sunday. Thanks again to all the Cornwall and Dartmoor members, and other competitors for coming out in the early hours of the morning in terrible weather to help salvage what was possible from the devastation around them. On Saturday morning, the committees consulted with the judges and other experienced competitors having looked at the weather forecast in detail. It was agreed unanimously that regrettably we would have to cancel the shows, in part because the marquee had been destroyed and some equipment damaged and one ring being flooded but also for the safety of the competitors and their dogs. Even if we had got a replacement marquee or equivalent the winds were too high over Saturday to put it up safely and jumps we erected were blowing over even though they were pegged down. |

Thank you to everyone that we spoke to for being so understanding, the decision was not an easy one to make.
Ann Hampshire said, 'We are considering whether to reschedule but, as you are all aware, the summer calendar is pretty full. If we do rearrange it may not be until the autumn. We intend to refund to competitors the balance left after expenses have been deducted from the total entries received, details to follow in a few weeks when all the bills have come in."

| Cornwall Agility Club and
Dartmoor DTC would like to thank everyone for their patience and support following the
cancellation of the shows over the weekend of 25 and 26 April. The committees of the two
clubs will be working independently to consider costs and whether we are able to provide
part refunds for competitors. Cornwall Agility Club lost the majority of their paperwork and so would appreciate contact from competitors at the show on Saturday. We have your names and your dog names but not the pieces of paper with the addresses. Please email your details to Ruth Clarke at ruthclarkemail@aol.com] Source: Ruth Clarke (26/04/09) |

Agility Club's show at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge, is cancelled today (Saturday,

There has been an amendment made to the wording for the SJDC qualifier in the Avon Schedule. It should read:
Open to all members of the Scottish Junior Dog Club only. There will be four qualifiers held throughout the year; each qualifying event entitles the top five [placed handlers (1st – 5th) to qualify for the ‘SJDC Junior of the Year’ final to be held at ACTS in September. If in the event a handler has already qualified, the next placed junior will qualify for the final. This process will be repeated until all 20 positions are taken up’

Thank you to all the exhibitors who have entered the South Wicklow Canine Club Show on Sunday, 5 April 2009. The organisers are delighted with the entries and hope you all have a good day. The weather forecast is supposed to be nice, too.
Due to the fact that the grass has been trampled on by quad bikes, the agility has been moved for safety sake to the rear of the building at The Coral Leisure Centre on the football pitch. The Arklow Football Club have kindly changed their match to Saturday for the show. They have asked competitors not to drive cars on the pitch - please. As children play football on the pitch every week, all doggie stuff needs to be cleaned up. There will lots of bins about.
Cars can be parked on the running track. So you can be close to your ring, the Club has bent over backwards to get this arranged with the people involved. A one-way system for the cars has been set up. Keep to the right when entering, go around the track for parking. One line of parking only. Exit from the left only. Thank you in advance for doing this.
There will be a measuring of dogs for the Agility for the new rules.
The Obedience ring is in the same area as last year.

All show expenses have now been accounted for and the balance remaining will be refunded to entrants. Dartmoor will be refunding 70% of paid entry fees but, due to lower income and additional costs, Cornwall refunds will only be at the rate of 50%.
To claim a refund please send a SAE to the appropriate Show Secretary by 30 June 2009, indicating to whom you would like the cheque made payable, otherwise we will revert to the name(s) on the envelope. Show Secretary addresses are as per the original schedules are Ruth Clarke, Cornwall and Kim Kraushar, Dartmoor. All requests for camping refunds should go direct to Cornwall’s Show Sec Ruth Clarke,
Many competitors have indicated that they will not be claiming their refunds so the Clubs have decided to donate any unclaimed monies to the charities below (except where otherwise requested):
- Cornwall AC to the Kelpie Welfare Fund
- Dartmoor DTC to split equally between the Cinnamon Trust that supports care of pets of the elderly and terminally ill and the Devon Air Ambulance
Please note that neither club has been able to make a claim against their insurance as cancellations due to adverse weather are excluded.
Janet Mason said, 'We will be emailing all local clubs and, hopefully, sending a copy for display at most shows over the next few weeks - not easy to make sure that the message gets through to everyone concerned. Please tell your friends who do not have internet access.'

'I am pleased to announce that as this event was already supported by the Kennel Club and Pedigree and thus they will now take complete responsibility for it. Show secretaries of future heats have been advised that any future enquiries about this competition should be submitted to myself or my secretary Pauline Barr. An announcement will be made later this year concerning the venue and date for the 2010 semi-final.'
Whilst on the subject on qualifying events, some of you may be aware that this is the last year of that the Royal Show at Stoneleigh will be hosting the KC Olympia Large Semi-Finals. Details of a revised qualifying process for Olympia 2010 will be released later this year.
Below is a list of of the KC Olympia ABC agility 2009 qualifying dogs, so far, up to and including the heat at Wallingford. Vyne and Woodside results to follow.

Please note that with immediate effect, agility has sadly lost the very generous and long-time sponsorship from Eukanuba.
As there will be no Eukanuba Finals held at Crufts, this years scheduled qualifying classes will just be held as individual competitions. All the show secretaries will be contacted.
On a personal level, Yvette Pettican said, 'I would like to thank Eukanuba and those at Proctor & Gamble for all their help and support - and also the Clubs and secretaries for their help in hosting the heats.
If anyone has any queries, please contact me on either tel. 01206-541880 or by email at Yvette.Pettican@btinternet.com

Directions
to the BATS Show have changed once again thanks to the Council shutting part of the route
tomorrow from 7.00am
Jill Acton said, 'We are putting up direction signs for the morning. You will now be filtered left at the traffic lights to a roundabout and go left, straight on at the next roundabout and right at the next one into Kimpton Road. Follow this road straight over a small roundabout and left at the next one. You are now back on the route with four roundabouts to go. Mobile phone number for emergencies is 07958 587595. See you in the morning.'

AC is introducing a new class at their show on Saturday 27 June, based on a show jumping class
seen at Olympia this year called The Eraser. It will be a Pay on the Day class and will be open
to handlers of all grades and dogs of all sizes, giving everyone an extra run on the day.
Basically it is a fast and flowing Open jumping class (G1-7) without any weaves. The thing which makes it different from any other class is that it has a choice of two endings. If you have gone clear you can take an easier route at the end. If, however, you have 5 faults you can choose to 'gamble’ on a harder (but still fast) ending. If you complete the 'gamble' ending correctly, your 5 faults are 'erased'. The fastest dog wins.
The show will be held at Luton Regional Recreation Ground, St Thomas’ Road, Stopsley, Luton LU2 7XP. In addition to the classes, there will be a good selection of trade stands so you can do what you like best - run your dogs and shop!
Closing date for the show is 15 May so there is still time to enter.

Despite massive opposition from the agility community in Ireland, the Irish Kennel Club is to run a pedigree-only CACIB (an FCI Challenge Certificate) agility class at its European Winners Show in Dublin on 30 May. This is possible because of the new Agility Rules introduced by the IKC this month. Other changes in the new rules include the full recognition of Small and Medium Dogs which is to be welcomed.
The holding of a pedigree-only championship class is not mandatory under the new rules, and a Green Star (an IKC Challenge Certificate) class is also being run concurrently at the show, which is open to all Grade 7 dogs, both pedigree and non-pedigree. The fear is that the IKC will rapidly turn Irish agility into a pedigree -only sport. At present, well over half the dogs doing agility are non-pedigree.
Following the adverse reaction of agility competitors to the pedigree-only championship class at its show, the IKC has issued the following statement:-
'It is the intention of the Irish Kennel Club to make representations and proposals to the FCI to change it's regulations that prohibit non-breed specific and neutered dogs from competing for CACIB's at FCI International Shows.'
I think we all know the answer from the FCI already!

On
behalf of Fair City DTC... the ground at Scone Palace is very waterlogged already. Please only
bring your caravan to the show if absolutely necessary as it looks like people will have to be
towed on and off. A final decision will be made tomorrow morning if the show will be going
ahead. Cross your fingers for a dry afternoon!
Update: The ground is drying up and looking okay so the show will go ahead. Again, please only bring your caravan if really necessary.

To anyone thinking of competing in Ireland, please note that all dogs - whether from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland or the UK - must be registered with the Irish Kennel Club and have an IKC Agility Record Book- available from the IKC - which must be brought to the show. All dogs must be measured and their heights officially recorded in their record book.
Dogs from Northern Ireland and the UK who compete under KC Regulati0ns should enter the grade equivalent to the grade they work in their own country.

JUNE 2009

The Kennel Club is keen to reassure agility competitors that the Crufts classes previously sponsored by Eukanuba - the Mini Agility Challenge, the Mini Circular Knockout and the Mini/Mixi pairs - will go ahead at Crufts in 2010 as planned albeit without sponsorship. The Kennel Club has taken this decision in view of the fact that the classes have already been scheduled and entries received and the Finals have always been a highlight of the agility competitors' year.
The Kennel Club wishes to thank Eukanuba for their support of these classes over the years.
The dates for Crufts 2010 are Thursday, 11 March to Sunday, 14 March.

Just a wee reminder those of you bringing caravans or tents etc. to the Gleniffer show either have your caravan (tow bar) pointing towards the road or towards the wooded area. Caravans need to be in line with 6m clear in front and behind and 8m from side to side. This is a health and safety matter as we must leave enough room should the emergency services require access to the camping area. If in doubt, please pull into the day parking and someone will advise.
On another note please remember the 14 day rule. If you have changed grade recently, you should have advised the Show Secretary at least 14 days before the first day of the show. If you have not done this, then you will not be eligible to compete at the show. We are still having phone calls with people trying to change grades with only 5 days left to go. Hope you all enjoy your weekend, see you all there.

The teams for the 2009 European Open Agility Championships have been announced following the Kennel Club organised squad selection day held on Saturday 18 April 2009 in Daventry. This will be the second time that a team has been chosen at a special selection day.
Over 70 competitors and dogs travelled from all corners of the United Kingdom to compete for the privilege of representing Great Britain at the forthcoming Championships in Holland in July. All competitors had their Pet Passports checked by the team vet, Rachel Mowbray to ensure they were fully eligible to compete in Holland prior to selection. The dogs were then run over three testing courses, set by judge John Gilbert, and points were given relating to the dogs' placings in each round. European Open Team Manager, Graham Partridge, then took the dogs with the most accumulated points into the final round. Nine Large dogs, four Medium dogs and four Small dogs were selected from the final round to become Team GB and will travel to Holland in July.
The Teams - subject to change due to injury, illness etc - are as follows:-
Large Dog Teams
|
Medium Dog Team
Small Dog Team
|
All 17 squad members will run in the Individual Championships. The Team Manager has decided to enter two Large Teams, one Medium Team and one Small Team. In releasing the details of the make up of each team in advance, the Team Manager wishes to encourage a bond and team spirit amongst those selected which can be grown over the next few weeks, including the possibility of each team getting together for practice and tactics.
Graham said 'The European Selection Day was a huge success with a terrific four round competition. Our Judge, John Gilbert, produced excellent courses which tested the very best. I am very confident that Team GB will do us proud in Holland.'
The Kennel Club would like to congratulate all the dogs selected to compete at the European Open Championships and, with the rest of the Agility community, wishes them every success in Holland in July.
The KC also offers its sincere thanks to Kath Dark who hosted the event. All competitors are reminded that the closing date for the World Agility Selection Day is Thursday, 18 June 2009. These Championships will be held on 18 – 20 September 2009 in Dornbirn, Austria. For an entry form, please contact Zoe Tharmasingam on tel. 020 7518 1013 or email

There's something for everyone. Come and enjoy a day with Golden Valley in the Welsh countryside. Competitors
at the 2009 Kennel Club International Agility Festival who are camping at the Festival
showground at Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire, should note that the use of petrol or diesel
generators by private individuals will not be allowed at any time at the Festival.
The decision, which is in line with the venue’s policies, was taken following a review by the Festival’s health and safety consultant in conjunction with the event's insurers.
'It is important that a large event such as the International Agility Festival, with so many people camping together, should follow best practice in all safety matters, explained Show Secretary Debbie Deuchar. 'We hope nobody will be seriously inconvenienced, but safety comes first.'

The Kennel Club would like to clarify a couple of queries in relation to grade progression for agility dogs following the introduction of the “25 day rule” in January this year.
Competitors are reminded that, if they progress to the next grade more than 25 days before another show they have entered, it is their responsibility to notify the show secretary of the change to their dog’s grade. Such notification must be undertaken at least 14 days before the date of the show in question. Failure to do so will mean that the society will not alter your grade and you will not be able to compete at that show.
It is also confirmed that if a dog progresses from grade 6 to grade 7 it is entitled to enter a Championship class, if applicable, provided this change is notified to the show secretary in accordance with the regulations.

For
those going to the Thames show this weekend, the M4 will be closed from 7pm on Saturday, 13
until 10.00am on Sunday, 14 June between junctions 16 and 17 - both ways. Although going west
won't affect competitors to the show, it will affect those travelling on Sunday morning if you
are coming from Bristol, Bath or anywhere west of Swindon. This area covers the two Swindon
junctions. Undoubtedly there will be diversions in place so make sure you leave extra time.
Have a safe journey!

For
anyone entering the High Peak Agility show on 5-6 September, please note there has been a
mistake on the Sunday classes. For those who downloaded the previous version of the schedule,
all Large grades have three runs plus the Team Dash except for the Large Grades 4/5. A Large
Combined Agility for Grades 4/5 had been missed out.
This has now been rectified. After talking to the Kennel Club, a new schedule has been issued with an additional class called 31(a)Large Combined Agility Grades 4/5. It is now available on Agilitynet among other places.
In the meantime, if you have already entered the show - and this effects you - don't worry/ You will be phoned to check if you want to enter this class.

The information
sheet and class list with all entries has been sent out to competitors with their running
orders. Since sending out the sheet, there have been two amendments, specifically:-
**Blue Camping Area Revised Directions**
BLUE passes are for the grandstand camping area–Revised directions are as follows and will be fully signposted:-
Leave A590 at the Cartmel junction, head down 'Cartmel Lane’ to crossroads, straight on then turn right at the next 'T’ junction. Carry on and take the second left signposted 'Wood Broughton’. Continue down this road for approximately 1 mile and then bear left at small triangle onto 'Green Bank Lane’. Follow this lane for about 1.5 miles until the racecourse comes into view, Blue camping entrance is 200 yards on right
YELLOW passes (follow original directions as per schedule) are for the cricket field area – from the village square go straight on to the left of the phone box, through the village car park.
Please do not arrive before 1pm on Friday afternoon. We need time to get organised.
If you expect to arrive earlier, there is absolutely nowhere to park in the village so please stop on the way for refreshment. After 9pm there will be no officials on the gates. Please check the layout drawings on the Wyre agility web site to locate your pitch prior to arrival. www.wyreagility.co.uk
We are mindful of Kennel Club and accepted safety precautions therefore each pitch has 4 marked corners and a marked tow-bar point (the pitch number peg). Return your pitch peg to the secretary’s tent by Sunday lunchtime and be in with a chance of winning a bottle of wine!
Please camp CARAVAN – AWNING – CAR and keep 'garden’ fencing within your own pitch – do not combine with your neighbours.
Have fire safety equipment in your unit and keep a bucket of water available at all times.
For their assistance in the running of this event we would also extend out thanks to all our judges and urge you, the competitors, to be appreciative of the efforts they contribute to our sport. We have a few class changes. Please see over for judge and class running orders.
The tranquillity of Cartmel is one of it’s main attractions and the Priory is an important part of the local community. We will be making minimal use of the PA system, especially on Sunday. Unfortunately we are not allowed to use the PA system before 9am on both show days. Class briefings will be ringside at approximately 8:15am with the classes commencing at 8:30am.
We appreciate that some camping areas are some distance from the rings, but it is your responsibility to be at the rings to run on time. Class order is overleaf.
Presentations will be at the secretary’s tent and will only be broadcast over the local speakers and not across the whole campsite.
We are dependant on you to maintain our good relations with the racecourse management. Please note any signs restricting access, and ensure you clean up after your dogs at all times, even in the woods. We provide bin bags to all campers and skips around the site for your use. Please do not use the public dog bins as these are not large enough for all show people. We will not be placing bags on exercise areas – please use the skips or the bags provided to you, and try to minimise the amount of general waste by using the recycling point in the village car park.
Te Race Track may only be crossed at the marked crossing points – local people may sometimes walk around the track but in view of our sheer numbers we are asked not to.
Please do not antagonise the cricket club by exercising dogs on the playing area, even if there is no match taking place. There is hot food catering near the rings offering a full range of food.
In case of an emergency, you may contact any Wyre member or the following (please note that mobile reception is often poor at this venue): -

JULY 2009
The Weimaraner Agility League Match on Saturday, 12 September has had to be cancelled for unforeseen reasons. All entrants/prospective entrants have been informed.
Janet Hudson said, 'We did a Weimaraner Association KC Show at Winterton in June, which was an ABC celebration and we had a record number of Weimies. Next year I am going to look at doing the KC Show and the Weimaraner League Match together to save on costs for the Weimie owners!'

The Brecon Open Agility Show (Golden Valley) this Saturday, 1 August has been cancelled. Please will handlers send a stamped addressed envelope for a refund before Monday, 31 August. Any money not claimed by then will be donated to the Dogs Trust.
Marilyn Wiseham said, 'Brecon Agility Show takes place as part of the Brecon Agricultural Show, the oldest in the country. The big lorries went onto the site on Monday to erect the many large marquees and made so much damage to the site that no one could get on, the Show Committee took the decision to cancel because of that and the bad weather forecast. The show has only been cancelled twice in 247 years, and one of those was due to the foot and mouth. It was a great shame and has disappointed many people as it is very popular.'

Due to circumstances beyond their control, Kingdom of Fife Dog Agility Club has found it necessary to change venue for their Agility Show this weekend (1-2 August). Assuming that all goes well, and weather permitting, the show will be at Gilvenbank Park, Glenrothes KY7 6RA. It is only a few miles from Overstenton Park, but it is larger, and they will be allowed to accommodate all caravans, etc.
Directions to Gilvenbank Park are as follows:-
From the
South:
Follow the A92 north from Kirkcaldy. Keep on the A92 until you leave Glenrothes heading for
Dundee. Just after the road changes from single carriageway to dual carriageway (Balfarg
Junction), take the slip road to the left. (B969 sign-posted for Leslie) At the next roundabout
(400 yards approx), turn left on to Huntsman’s Road. The venue entrance is the second exit on
the right after approx 600 yards).
From the
North:
Follow the A92 from Dundee heading to Kirkcaldy. After passing through Freuchie, you will
come to New Inn roundabout. Take the second exit, still heading for Glenrothes/Kirkcaldy on the
A92. After approx ¾ mile on the dual carriageway, take the first turn right at Balfarg
Junction. (B969 sign-posted for Leslie) At the next roundabout (400 yards approx), turn left on
to Huntsman’s Road. The venue entrance is the second exit on the right after approx 600 yards)

Due
to recent bad weather, the field Blackdown AS were expecting to use this Sunday, 2 August for
their show) is not available. A similar sized flat field at the same venue is to be used
instead. This is courtesy of the Highland Cattle who have been moved out to allow the agility
competition to take place. This field gives better access to walking in the woods, but may
exhibit signs of the somewhat careless previous occupants.

The
70 dog limited has been reached for the TraVal Limited agility show on 29 August 2009, so they
are not taking any more entries. Most of the competitors who supplied email addresses have now
been noticed about procedures on the day, but there are still have a few phone calls to make to
those who only supplied a phone number. Val Clarke hopes to be catching up with these before
1st August.

The Kennel Club has licensed its 41st Championship Agility Show Society after the Dundee Alsatian and Training Club was awarded the status for Large, Medium and Small dogs from 2010. This takes the total number of Championship Agility Show Societies to 21 for Large dogs and 20 for Small and Medium dogs. In total there are 23 Championship Agility shows - 15 in England, six in Scotland and two in Northern Ireland.
Any society interested in applying for future Championship Agility Status should submit a presentation for consideration by the Activities Sub-Committee. Please note that the application should include the proposed show date, which should not coincide with another Championship Agility Show. The application should also include details of the society’s committee structure and show management team. It is also important that information on the proposed show venue is submitted, stating the facilities available for judges, competitors, dogs and spectators.

Following the expansion of the agility dog measuring scheme, a need has arisen for additional measurers in the Midlands region. We are now inviting applications from interested parties who would like to be considered to measure agility dogs to establish into which size category they fall. The position may be of interest to judges, show managers or those closely involved with the running of agility shows.
Those interested should send their details to Debbie Deuchar, WTOA Team Leader, The Kennel Club, 1-5 Clarges Street, Piccadilly, London W1J 8AB

The newly formed TraVal Agility Group will be organising and hosting the Crystal Challenge Winter Series of shows, formerly hosted by C-Side, this year. The intention is to keep to the same format with regard to classes with the only difference being that four heights will be catered for specifically, Small, Medium, Standard and Large.
The show dates are 15 November 2009, 6 February 2010 and 6 March 2010. The schedule is now out for the first show and an on-line entry form is available at TraVal Agility Group BLOG.
Val Clark said, 'We are looking for judges for February and March shows so would be grateful for any offers. We pay our judges, feed them well and they can run their dogs free of charge in the part of the day they are not judging.

Hamish Mykura, Head of More 4, said, 'More 4's coverage will enable dog lovers to see all the Crufts favourites, with fresh and stylish coverage that will give the show a More 4 twist. Crufts has a long-standing place in British broadcasting, and people who watch it want to know that the dogs are, above all, happy and healthy. Our programmes will place a particular emphasis on dog welfare issues, reflecting different points of view.”
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Communications Director, added, 'Dogs and dog lovers look forward to Crufts every year and we are delighted that More 4’s coverage will give them the opportunity to celebrate with us the special and unique bond between dogs and their owners. The programme will not only show a range of the fun competitions and events that celebrate the diverse role that dogs play in society, but will also give puppy buyers the opportunity to learn how to choose, train and care of their dog, throughout its life.
'Dog shows such as Crufts, are crucial to safeguarding the long term health and welfare of pedigree dogs. They enable us to encourage and reward the breeding of healthy, happy dogs, by making sure that these are the ones that go home with the prizes. Without dog shows there would be no incentive to breed healthy dogs, no forum to monitor whether this is being done and no platform to educate the breeders and owners of the future.
'Crufts is also the world’s best platform for all individuals and welfare organisations, veterinary professionals and breed experts who love and care about dogs, to discuss the health issues that the Kennel Club recognises affect some breeds and to discuss what we can all do to ensure that dogs live healthy, happy lives.
'The Kennel Club has worked hard for many years to address these health issues both within and outside of the show ring, and will continue to do so. It conducted the world’s largest survey into pedigree health in 2004, in association with the Animal Health Trust and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, which culminated in the review of all breed standards in January 2009.'
Finally Nicky Paull, President of the British Veterinary Association, explained, 'Dog shows such as Crufts provide an excellent opportunity to educate the public about pedigree breeding – both the good elements and the areas of concern. They can also be used to highlight best practice in dog breeding and encourage responsible ownership.
Alongside many other organisations, the BVA has long campaigned to reduce genetic disease in all animals and, jointly with the Kennel Club, our Canine Health Schemes help breeders to identify problems early and ensure they are not passed on. 'We welcome More 4’s commitment to screening Crufts as a way to highlight health and welfare issues and inform viewers in an interesting and engaging way.'The coverage will be produced by Sunset & Vine.
