Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers in competition

Inspired by the success of agility leagues dedicated to handlers of breeds like German Shepherds, Weimaraners and Belgian Shepherds, and due to the increasing numbers of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers taking part in agility, a small group of Toller handlers have decided to set up a similar league.

 2006-2007

It was another great season for the Toller League with a total of 24 dog/handler combinations. There have been some outstanding performances yet again and we would like to take this opportunity to highlight just a few.

Toller Agility League Class 2007

Our sincere appreciation goes to the Barrow-In-Furness Dog Training Club for allowing us to hold the third Toller Agility League Class at their summer show on the 30 June, and to CSJ who sponsored it with a Big Bag of food - duck flavour, of course!

Grateful thanks also to Josie McCann, who judged the class in the most appalling weather, and to our supporters who were as loyal as ever, braving the storm with their usual good humour!

There were eight Tollers competing this year and only one elimination - Chance (Newfanova Chancie Bear), who decided to take a detour on route to go through the tunnel at an inappropriate time.

The winner of the Toller Class 2007 was  Amanda Hampson with Minx (Winfren Vulpecula Kayla) having a clear round in 27.805 seconds. Cathy Shaw came second with Lily (Newfanova Aurora at Shoredancer) came second, again with a clear round in 30.694 seconds.

Lily, this time handled by Keri Graham, also came 1st in the Junior’s in a stunning time of 26.925 seconds, again with a clear round. Well done, Keri!

Toller  Retires!
by Linda Graham

Tipsy (aka St. Day Justaminnie) has finally retired from Agility competition at the age of 11. Anyone who knows Tipsy will know what a challenge her agility career has been over the years!

A few years ago she suffered a back injury which left her with reduced control over one of her back legs. This did not stop her enthusiasm for jumping but as this leg gradually got weaker the jumps had to be lowered making it impossible to compete at KC shows.

She had her last official competition runs at micro height in the Veteran classes at EMDAC last year. She really enjoyed this and picked up a few places (I have some lovely rosettes to prove it).

Tipsy is a very ‘busy’ dog so retirement will be interesting. Her duties will include keeping the sheep, goats and chickens in order and also retrieving toys from the beck at the bottom of the garden. Happy retirement little girl!

If anyone would like any further details regarding the Toller Agility League, please contact: Alan or Mandy Holt by E-mail on tal@dholt.freeserve.co.uk or ring tel: 01325-312558
