 Results of the Finals

The national finals of the Kennel Club's premier agility competition for new dogs and handlers, the Starters Cup, took place on Saturday, 13 November at London's biggest dog event, Discover Dogs. In a series of hard-fought rounds, these rising stars of the agility world thrilled a packed main ring audience, showing the skills and commitment that had won them their places in this prestigious event.

The Starters Cup competition was created to enable the best dogs in Grades 1 and 2 to compete in a national final each year. The qualifying rounds are held at the world's largest agility show, the Kennel Club International Agility Festival, held each August at Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire. After initial jumping and agility rounds, the top placed dogs take part in a semi-final at the Festival. The top 12 Large dogs from the semi-final, together with the top six Medium and six Small dogs, are invited to compete for the Starters Cup title in the final at Discover Dogs.

The Starters Cup qualifying rounds at the International Agility Festival were open to all dogs in Grades 1 and 2 which had achieved at least 50 Agility Warrant points, or gained a tenth or higher place in a Grade 1 or 2 class between July 2009 and June 2010.

Judge Roger Griffin said, 'It was hard to build courses with a reduced ring size . With this being a final, I knew that the competitors would be nervous enough without dealing with a very difficult course. To their credit, all the handlers did remarkably well. The standard was very good and all the dogs worked well. The contacts were solid and well controlled.'

'I hope that they all enjoyed their day at Discover Dogs. Win or lose it was a moment to remember.'

'Well done to all and a special thanks should go to the ring party that were there all weekend and very often get overlooked.'
